if they are smart they wont release a demo. sometimes a demo is a double edge sword.
if its fun, it can bring extra sales from people who have never played X series. however, bringing out a dull demo, or a demo that is severely lacking gameplay mechanics because its still early in development, can create a backlash and leave gamers feeling jaded and not buy the full game.
Because, Pirate Thom, SOME people might see this as an attempt by movie studios to take a small step in curbing piracy.

i learned from MMOs that "free to play" often turns into nickel-n-dime you to purchases that are sometimes 5x what you would have paid for a subscription based model.
i don't think you understand what the article is about or what exactly is being ruled on...
you still have to BUY something on steam ($5 minimum) to validate an account.
that means that at least a large portion of would be idiots is already cut off. Also, the idea that farmers and cheaters would be rampant is nullified due to the fact that no cheater is gonna pay $5 everytime they get banned.
and valve has said they will keep an eye on people making multiple accounts just to grief.

actually the preliminary bouts are played on both xbox 360 and ps3, but EVO itself is sponsored by playstation, so it would make sense they only use PS3 for the big event.
