Eh, most FPS titles can be called generic. It's the nuances that make them fun. I can't say I'm terribly interested in this title with MP Uncharted 2 and MW2 hitting this winter, but to knock an FPS for being an FPS, selectively overlooking all of its nuances, is a tad bit... stupid.
Maybe this will force Iga to make an HD, 2d, Metroidvania style game for next gen systems and not a mediocre 3d title?

I love the tongue in cheek, the self indulgence, and the cheesy conventions of the series. However at the same time, I still think that even with those points mentioned above, the series can still be considered epic, and great in the story department.
Take a look at MGS2 alone. Despite all the convolution and odd presentation and soapboxing, it actually made some great points about the digital age, information, perception of reality... I can't think of many other games, certainly...

I don't think they are trying to insult the series that spawned GOTY 2008 and the best audio/visual presentation of 2008 according to most gamers/media outlets.
