Absolutely the best stories of any JRPG series, IMO. The gameplay has never been anything special, but the stories are absolutely top-notch.

Not a big surprise, given Xbox popularity, or lack thereof, in Japan.

Great RPG series. If you own a PS4, and like JRPGs... get it.

Umm.. Orcs Must Die! is a tower defense game, made by Robot Entertainment, and it came out first on the Xbox 360. It was free on XBL Gold, because yeah.. it didn't sell well when it wasn't free.

Unchained is it's free-to-play sequel, also made by Robot, and it's target platform is really mobile devices, not Sony platforms. It's console exclusive because Sony pays for it to be, not because Robot wants it to be. The "I wouldn't work with Micros...

The Scorpio will be made of less fudge than the PS4 Pro. That's all I really care about, in the end.

TBH, downsampled 1080p gaming with HDR is just fine, by me, and I have a high-end 4K HDR TV. I'll take better technique over more pixels, any day -- it's a diminishing returns thing. Once we hit true 1080p/60 (which the PS4 Pro and Scorpio finally achieve), more rez is not really that important on a TV -- you have to be close to a big monitor, or in VR, to re...

It's about a $700 PC, not $900. Maybe $650, even. Still, it's a deal at that price, given that you also don't have the hassle of knowing how to put a rig together with a PS4 Pro.

If you take a PS4 equivalent build, which we know can be built for ~$550-600, and strap another $30 of CPU muscle, and $100 of GPU muscle to it, you've got yourself a Pro equivalent.

Moore's law is dead. Consoles are meant to be cheap. The PS4 Pro is gonna last for a long, long time -- certainly way more than 2 years. Even Intel is pushing back their 10nm architecture, and it won't be cheap enough for consoles until like 2020.

The Pro was released to extend the PS4 timeline, not decrease it.

That means they are sold -- what they eventually have to set the price at, to sell them, is still a factor, but those games ARE sold.

Retail doesn't get a free pass to pass the expense of unsold merchandise back to the manufacturer. They place an order, they sell it. There is risk involved. No free lunch.

Some money may change hands, due to contractual obligations regarding price control, but the games are still sold.

OMG. If this triggers a new quality JRPG avalanche, the gaming world will be a magical place again!

It's my dream to shelve all my old consoles and say "oh well, I'll never need these again, now that I got too many great JRPGs to finish in the next decade". I've literally played them all, outside of NIS stuff, which I despise. ;-) RPGs is literally the only thing that keeps them around, for me.

"I owned the Vive for about 3 weeks before returning it. The Vive is an amazing piece of hardware, but I couldn't justify the price for the lack of fully fledged games. Once the Vive gets a significant price drop I'll consider it again"

So.. you bought a PSVR + PS camera + 2 Moves, for $500, because that's an okay price for even fewer games, at a lower quality bar?

"Sony just needs to release more games for PSVR and they will have a monopoly of the VR markey "

Yeah, they should just whip that up. I wonder why they haven't busted out the awesome library, just yet?

The Rift and Vive total about 500-600K sales, according to Steam. Oculus probably has a bit more than Steam likes to claim, given their partnership with HTC, and the fact that many Rift owners may never register their device with Steam.

If the PSVR is leading them... well that's not saying a whole lot. That's a small fraction of the sales that devices like the Kinect had (18 million?), and it was considered a flop... just sayin'.

Besides, it...

Official Rift support, for Minecraft, was free. Elite was a full game without Rift. Those games were worth the investment. EVE: Valkyrie is the same cost as Elite, and less than half the actual game -- just combat, really. There are some platformers, some dungeon crawlers, some racers... all of them are indie or "B" titles, asking just plain too much money, solely because they support VR.

It's tough to justify a purchase for many "true" VR games,...

I'll take 1080p/60 over sorta 4k/30, any day.

Down sample from 1440p, and win/win, if you want a better image. The Scorpio will be the same way, except that the down sampling could come from a 1600p source, and still maintain good FPS

I think I'll wait, and get it $50 cheaper, and with a game bundle, next year, when it's forced to compete with Scorpio.

The entire Legend of Heroes series is great, and has been since it's inception. If I had to rate it amongst all the JRPGs I've played -- and I've literally played dozens of them -- it'd be on top, possibly contending somewhat with a few of Level-5's greats.

Final Fantasy.. would be pretty average, as far as the whole series goes. There are a ton of better JRPGs out there. If FF15 is a return to greatness, get both -- but don't pass Legend of Heroe...

CPU bottleneck.

Happens with most open-world titles.

Article places 8 and 9 ahead of 4, in terms of quality, and calls FF2 the worst game of the series.

I think that says it all... this guy is a nut. Then again, he didn't even mention X-2, so since he apparently doesn't qualify that one as a FF game at all, I have to give him some credit.

Remasters are popular because they sell, and they're cheap for the publishers to make, relative to new games. You're mistaken in thinking people don't want new games -- its that developers/publishers can no longer afford to develop them, thanks to the thin margins and low sales on such titles.

It has nothing to do with what gamers want (fun experiences), and everything to do with what gamers demand (low prices). You can't have both without compromise (like...

No BC title *ever* has online support. That would simply bleed money for the publishers involved, because they have to run and maintain a server/service for a title they don't sell/make money from. They will never, ever do it.

SOCOM 1/2 (heck, all of them) are dead, and will stay that way forever... even if Sony brought full PS2 BC to the PS4, you'd only get the single player experience, at best.

3429d ago 2 agree1 disagreeView comment

With PS1, yes. Not having PS1 BC is just Plain Stupid (tm)
