2 Moves + camera + HMD is $560.

That's a steal for a great setup.

The trouble is, Sony didn't force the controllers into the bundle. Thus, games devs cant be assured that people own 1, let alone 2 -- and NO, the DS4 is NOT an acceptable substitute in VR! Its ergonomics are two handed! This isn't final fantasy, where wielding a two-hander in each hand is no problem.

A VR headset and 2 controllers would have basically guaranteed ...

I hate to say it, but now that they announced that it doesn't ship with Move controllers, game devs won't use them, and hence the VR games on PS4 will suffer.

The PS VR would have won, if it came with 2 Moves, and was priced at $500. It can't win at $400 and no Moves. The experiences will just be boring, like that lame headshot soccer demo they have at every show.

It could have been great, Sony... I OWN a Move, and I would have preferred to buy...

The DK2 is nothing like the consumer Rift. You're in for a big surprise, if you haven't tried anything newer than a DK2.

Also, VR games will suffer badly without Move controllers. They are really a huge part of the most magical experiences. Even the software the PS VR ships with is way better with 2 Moves.

This article has it spot on.

The headset is nice. The PS4 doesn't cut it for VR, though. And, to be honest, the headset's screen is not as good as the Rift, even though the ergonomics are better.

My biggest issue with the ergo, though, is that you can't turn your head sideways with the PS VR, due to the way it fits -- the device will fall off. It's comfy when you don't tilt your head much, though.

That 4K PS4 rumor need...

This has nothing to do with DX12, per se.

A game has to be written for DX12, not quickie coverted to it, to see benefits. Basically the responsiblity for writing the portions of the DX11 driver that a game would use falls on the game devs.

You can remove a LOT of driver overhead that way... if you plan your whole pipeline around DX12 concepts. If you do a post-release conversion from DX11, chances are you just copied some DX11 driver cruft into your game an...

Um.. the game's renderer has to be written for DX12 to take advantage of it. Basically the game has to write the portions of the DX11 driver it would have used itself, without the cruft other games would need.. then voila.. DX12 awesome.

Is it?

If it's written for DX11, it doesn't matter that you have DX12 support on the PC that runs it -- it will use DX11.

Seriously, anyone who doesn't know this shouldn't be posting grap...

@OoglyBoogly, @Fries1223:

Both of you are really uninformed, with regards to the numbers here.

Kickstarter takes %30. 70% of 100K is 70K.

$70K pays about 2 minimum wage people @ 40 hours/week for a year, after you pay all ridiculous small business taxes and costs of software, etc. to develop a game, even in your garage.

You think this guy has any money left? HA ha ha.

That's like saying he ran off with ...

Due to the Cell, it'll be impossible to emulate many late-era PS3 games. No CPU can compete with the Cell in some areas, plain and simple. It only takes one part of the game loop to rely upon SPU physics, SPU animation, SPU skinning, etc., and then you cannot emulate.

Basically only the crappy ports the PS3 got early on will work, because they didn't use the SPUs. The PS3's GPU should be cake to emulate on any card past about a GTX 260.

I can believe 20%. 60% is pushin' it too far.

Also, pretending that 60 Hz true + 60 Hz reprojected is better than 90 Hz true is just pure hogwash. The big trouble with that is that reprojected frames typically only fool the viewer for a short time, and if you drop even one frame, all of a sudden you need two reprojections (or more) in a row, of the same frame.

I would take 90 Hz true, with backup reprojection if a frame is missed (to maintain 90 Hz), ov...

K. Time to start rooting for the underdog folks.

No more good can come from inflating Sony's ego. The PS5 will cost $800 if we don't watch out, and games prices will inflate by another $10-$20 (just like they did after PS2) thanks to the monopoly.

I loved Sony during the mid-to-late PS3 era, because they were trying. I'm not gonna applaud the PS4 for stomping the competition. I want them to give me a good experience *after* the hardware is pur...

The XBox One already lacks a lot of the driver cruft that DX12 bypasses. There will be some improvements, but they won't be as significant as the PC.

Been said a zillion times by a zillion people who know. Still, I'll take any improvements -- I got nothing against them.

PS3 is my fav console of all time, as well. The only platform where I have played more games on is PC, and I adored my PC gaming for a long, long while.

I still haven't sold my YLOD 60GB, because I adored it so much, and hope to reball it someday. It lasted years, and it died doing charity work (Folding), which I feel is a good way for a console to go. I got a 160GB still goin' strong, so I haven't needed to do the work, just yet.

The sad thing is that you could probably get at least that many good indie games, from a larger selection on Steam, for less than the price of one year of PS Plus.

MGS:GZ is the closest thing to a full retail game on that list, and lets face it, it was a glorified demo of MGS V. I suppose Walking Dead: S2, and Magicka 2 kinda count -- they are sub-$40-release "A" titles, at least, albeit not "AAA".

A lot of those indies are good fun, but ...

Okay, this month seals it for me. PS Plus is just plain not as good as Games with Gold. Sony's free games offering is basically trumped 100% of the time by Microsoft's.

What's up with that? They have 2x the marketshare, you'd think they could be a little more generous with the PS Plus offers.

3720d ago 9 agree17 disagreeView comment

This is actually a bad thing, for game design. They have to target the lowest common denominator to be successful.

Sony should ship 2 Move controllers and a camera with the Morpheus, to guarantee platform uniformity. Yes, it will cost more... and also we'll get WAY better VR experiences from it.

Also.. what is up with the move and dualshock combo? Doesn't seem very usable to me. Move it, or don't use it.

Wow @ the crazy hopefulness in this thread.

The "extra processing" in the add-on unit is nothing more than frame reprojection, so the PS4 can do 60 Hz processing, and the same frames get reprojected to produce a "fake" 120 Hz for VR. Basically a tiny portion of the logic that does similar tech in a modern TV to smooth the motion -- Sony calls it "MotionFlow", and other companies call it different names. Not quite the same thing, since the repro...

I have a pal who bought the XBox One version... I honestly couldn't tell the difference from the PC version when I first saw it. I even asked him "why do you play with a controller on PC?", until he pointed out that his PC was in a different room.

I suck with a mouse, since I started playing console shooters. I'll probably buy it on X1 as well, since my TV is nowhere near big enough for me to tell the difference between 900p and 1080p with that game.
