Operation Metro is a terrible terrible map.
The only thing I can think of is that they were trying to attract COD players to the BF3 beta, as Operation Metro is more of a COD style map.
You can't judge the BF3 beta based on 1 map. Operation Metro is a absolutely terrible map. Aslong as the bugs and glitches are ironed out, along with playing on great maps, the game will be awesome.
These 2 games are competing for completely different markets.
One is for the core audience, the other is pretty much for the casual audience.
BF3's goal to reach COD like sales will never ever happen, simply because the casual market is much larger.

What has improved over Gears 2? The gameplay is still the SAME.
Back then Gears 2 was awesome gameplay wise. Gears 3 is most likely better then Gears 2, but again, when compared to other games, where the gameplay has IMPROVED (Uncharted), Gears 3 gameplay remains the same.
