How is he withholding information by saying that? How is he misleading people by saying that? Could you imagine the CEO of Sony telling investors that PS3 sales aren't as good as everyone expected?

After NPD numbers I heard a Sony official state that 6 million PS3's were sold, when vgchartz shows it at 3 million. That is ...

But dev's often will say they are using multiple threads to achieve something versus saying multiple cores. Common terms are multi-threaded applications, thread synchronization, and thread switch(context switch).

In fact to use more than one cpu on a multi proc machine you have to actually create additional software thread(s) using apis such as beginthreadex(), createthread()

In fact I don't know of a dev who wouldn't use the term thread over something like mu...

market cap is the price of the stock multiplied by the number of outstanding shares. So although a single Sony stock is higher in price, MSFT actually has close to 10 billion shares where Sony has only 1 billion shares outstanding.
Sony's market cap is 53 billion.

Not bad but MSFT is close to 6 times as much at 283 billion

My favorite game from last gen, followed closely by GOW. For all of those who haven't played the original wait till you get the Lunar and start getting more combos as you level up. The action is so fast and in 1080P this game looks even more incredible....

I love how Sony fanboys claim that parallell processing wasn't really around until the Cell delivered it.

WRT gaming I am not saying that the Xenon can do everything the Cell can or vice versa. However no one, not even Sony has proven it. Until it i...

More PS3's sold equals more sales for Lair.

From vgchartz:
PDZ = 1.16
RFOM = 1.02

As far as DOA vs VF5 vgchartz doesn't have the data however in it's first month out VF5 moved a lackluster 57K.

Motorstorm shipped 200K in NA it's first month. I am sure the numbers in Europe look good but haven't seen anything. However considering it's one of only two games that are worth getting I would have expected stronger sales even in NA

There's no denying that. Although IMHO that is slipping a bit due to the popularity of the Wii and the strong offering of the 360. I think selling 100 million PS3's by 2010 is a bit of a stretch. I mean come on they are on pace to sell 2 million in NA for all of 2007. I know they will sell better than that but everyone has to admit that is a little dissapointing. However Sony is still the king and rightfully so since they are the 2 time defending champs.

One thing they di...

supposed to ship late summer/early fall? Mass Effect is the only one that sounds like it slipped. I wasn't keeping up with Eternal so I can't say if that slipped as well.

My only complaint is no split screen, and the load times in between races. But if you own a PS3 it is a must have.

and that is why they don't care how much they lose on the xbox. As long as it keeps people from running and learning how to use linux MS is content

NPD numbers didn't look that great for Motorstorm, so maybe they are waiting till install base is something like 6 million.

Maybe it's the movies I have watched are better suited for hi-def. My BR player is the PS3 and I have the hd-dvd add on for the 360. Tv is 1080p sharp aquos.

Anyways they both look great, although the BR selection seems to be better for my tastes especially with Reservoir Dogs and Usual Suspects recently coming out. I just need Fight Club to release and I will be a happy camper.

After watching stuff in HD so often it's hard to watch SD without feeling that you...

It looked really good. I didn't ask whether or not it helped move PS3's as I am sure those guys get bombarded with questions like that every day. Apparently the guy is on the Lair beta and he said the gameplay was awesome and the aerial combat was definitely something that he hadn't seen in any other game. It was good to hear because although the game visually looks great I was skeptical about a dragon game.

I was leery of buying a Sharp but in the store I was at it had the best picture, and colors by far. Even better than the 1080P Bravia which was like 700$ more.

Which is better? Hard to tell, but one has better blacks and the other has better whites. It seems like most of the 360/PS3 comparisons follow this pattern as well.

that is why I am always replying to what you post. What you say doesn't seem to make sense. It would seem that Unified Memory would be better and would result in less contention for resources. What if the GPU needs more than 256 MB of RAM but the CPU doesn't? In the split model there would be a resource issue, and in the unified model there wouldn't. The only way a resource issue pops up on unified if more than 512 mb is needed. Split model issues can crop up if either need 256MB regardl...

People are comfortable with it since it is a more traditional CPU. You don't hear people arguing over what it can and can't do.

The Cell has a lot of hype around it, which some people appear to be attacking it, so naturally others will defend it. If Sony is right, and in a year or two it is proven that the Cell is more powerful than I give them kudos for taking such a risk.

Either way the games that are out now for both systems look great. At the worst the C...

And when I catch it just start counting again from 1. If I wanted to really tax the system I could spawn new threads and just repeat the same lines of code on each of the processors. Regardless of how fast the cell can count, the loop is tight and infinite and will bog down the processor.

Contrived? Definitely, but I have often seen code that given the wrong circumstances will perform an infinite loop.

The point I was trying to make was no matter how "li...
