This situation is very similar to what happened to Windows Phones. WPs were not selling that good (games on xbox are not selling as good as the competition) but still MS needed to make profits (MS wants to make bridges) so they put their exclusives apps, the ones that distinguished its phone from others, on Android and iPhone.
Microsoft exclusives apps started to get a lot of attention and success on those phones, even today, some devices running Android will now come with ...

There is a downside, when your console is loosing miserably against its competitor, you have less exclusives and the few that remains are also no longer exclusive. A console without real exclusives is a console without identity.

Last week people here were criticizing me because I said The Witness was a console exclusive. They say to me that was a term invented by fanboys and the game was just a multiplatform.
Today, the same fanboys invented the term "Microsoft exclusive" to hide the fact that xbox is loosing it's exclusives. Amazing.

The thing here is that MS is doing it because the xbox is not giving them profits so they need desperately to make money somehow. Games on PS4 sell 3 and 4 times better than Xbox and PC combined. This mean Sony can maintain their healthy console while Microsoft is merging with PC in order to save the xbox brand.
That's not awesome for the xbox console. A console must have its exclusives games but judging the current bad position of the Xbox one I guess they don't care.
With the PS4 /PC combo people are all covered this gen plus they are VR ready too. There is no reason to have an Xbox at all.
So xbox lost another exclusive. At this rate they are not going to have anything exclusive for their console. Let's remember that this game was announced as an xbox exclusive. Not like The Witness or Firewatch that were never announced as PS4 exclusives.
I like Firewatch more than this one but is still a good game.
Everybody wins except the xbox brand. Even Sony wins as now the PS4 is the only console with more true exclusives which will help them stay strong in the market.
