Pulled the trigger on the EVGA ACX version this morning. Should be arriving tomorrow. Looking forward to maxing out everything @ 1080p/60fps.
VRAM is the same problem I am running into with my two 560ti's. That is the main reason I plan on picking up a 780. Plus, it will be nice to running a single card instead of SLI
Finally someone who understands that having an extra 5GB of RAM to play with doesn't mean the game will look better. The GPU can only render so many things on the screen at one time. The extra RAM is in the PS4 to make developing on it easier, decrease load times, and allow more things to be "open" in the background.
....considering that a 770 is a slightly overclocked 680, then no duh it performs roughly the same as 7970ghz. The real benefit from a 770 is if it releases at the rumored price of $400. Not to mention if it does come with that Titan cooler temps will be lower also.
They are lowering the price, slightly improving performance, lowering heat and power consumption. Not really a bad thing. Obviously not a completely new architecture, but nobody is expecting it to be.
They said they have optimized the engine a lot, but at the same time they have increased the visuals a lot at the same time. More than likely it will perform roughly the same but look much better.
Water-based combat: “Pilot attack boats, RHIBs and jet skis on swelling seas and stormy oceans.”
“Blow the foundations of a dam and flood the area of combat.”
“Bump into a vehicle and its alarm will give away your position.”
“Cut the power to a building and envelop the enemy in a cloak of darkness.”
These features sound awesome. Hope they make it into the final product.
780 is sounding pretty good right now, especially at $600. Id stick with my two 560ti's, but 1GB VRAM just doesnt cut it anymore.
I really hope they don't price the 780 too high. I was for sure going to grab it if they released it at the $500-$600 range like initially reported. ~$800 is just too much. Why would I spend close to $800 on a 780 when I could by two 770's for roughly the same rumored price? That wouldn't make any sense.
Replaying Metro 2033 to build up for the release of Last Light. If nVidia releases the 780 next month like it is rumored, I am picking it up just so I can play Last Light on max settings at 1080p@60fps.
Agreed. More like Origins and less like DA2. Dragon Age 2 on its own wasn't too bad, but compared to Origins it was complete crap. So many problems with what should have been an excellent game. I am hoping Bioware has learned from there mistakes and fixes everything they ruined. I am glad to see that they are using Frostbite 3. While the engine from DA2 was okay, Frostbite will be much better.
DOMination-
PC games don't have a native resolution. Almost all modern PC games support high resolution monitors (2560x1440/1600), with a good amount supporting ultra wide resolutions (5760x1080/1200p). However, games with low quality textures will kind of ruin having a high resolution monitor, seeing as the textures look blurry and completely defeat the purpose of a high res screen.
They did a similar ray tracing technique in Crysis 2 and 3. It is not full scene ray tracing like they are making it out to be. That would require way more power than the PS4 and most PCs are able to put out. It is nice to see another developer adding in some form of raytracing though. This will push more devs to do the same and increase visual fidelity on both the PS4 and PC.
I think Microsoft definitely needs to have Alan Wake 2 as a launch title, or at least launch it not too far off. Pretty sure it won't be an exclusive seeing as Alan Wake and American Nightmare both released for the PC, but it not being on the PS4 is what really matters.
It was actually two 7990's used in the Battlefield demo. Still, pretty impressive considering how much more demanding 4k is compared to standard 1080p or even 1440/1600p.
@nikrel
It doesn't matter. It will still work, and with two 660ti's you will hardly notice a performance loss.
Well, if the 780 releases at $500 Ill be buying it on day one. My 560ti's still play most games maxed out at 1080p/60fps, but the 1GB memory is not up to par in many games.
The main reason I never really wanted 3D on my PC (which I am actually set up for minus the glasses) was because it cuts your framerates in half. I would much rather have silky smooth 60fps than 3D @ 30fps.
Agreed. Hopefully nVidia will lower their prices to compete against the 7990. After a year on the market, I think they could at least drop it to $900, maybe $850.
Yeah, but for $100 less and a better reference cooler.
