It probably doesn't have an IR transmitter capable of sustaining a trackable light. The Kinect camera would need the device to have a trackable point lightsource, to use it as a pointing device.
It wouldn't need a large sphere, like the Move, because an IR point source could probably be sorted out with the IR depth info from the special camera. The remote probably only produces IR light when you press buttons, though, and that wouldn't cut it.
I'd wager that the games they announced previously, like Steel Battalion and Panzer Dragoon, may actually require either this peripheral or a regular controller. If it exists, the devs have probably had it for over a year already.
Well.. tbh, that's what Kinect needs to be a serious gaming peripheral. Buttons, and an accurate way to point at the screen.
I'll be cool if they bundle it in for free. It'll suck if they charge existing Kinect owners $25-30 for one, though.
The article is so far off. Metacritic scores are tough to get above 91, or below about 70, unless the game is really exceptional or bad. Here it is, the actual data from Jan 1st, 2012:
Batman Arkham City-89%
Battlefield 3 - 87%
Brink - 81%
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: 79%
Child of Eden - 87%
Deus Ex - 85%
Dirt 3 - 79%
Duke Nukem - 81%
Elder Scrolls V: - 90%
FEAR 3 - 69%
Forza 4 - 86%

Just for clarity, if MS can increase the current 6.8GB/disc storage on 360 discs to something closer to 8.5GB/disc, that's a big deal for any publisher who can manage to save a disc for their 360 game, when it comes to cost-of-goods.
It may seem like a small thing, but in reality it makes making large world games on the 360 much more feasible, in the financially-minded eyes of publishers everywhere.
Remember that MS has recently been pushing megamesh / me...
I'd rather have just one system with me, though. I'm pretty indecisive about which game to play at any given time.
I'm not trolling, I'm being honest here (I know that having any disappointment in the 3DS, whatsoever, qualifies as "trolling" to Nintendo fanboys ;) ). I like the 3DS alot, but man do I hope they improve the emulation. Inevitably I can see myself getting one, and an upgrade like that would be a strong selling point, for me.
...
Keep in mind that the DS didn't have much hype, nor did it have a predecessor as profoundly successful as the 3DS does. Imagining that the 3DS will outsell the mighty DS is folly.
The 3DS is bound to sell more up-front, due to the factors I just mentioned. The 10x sales rate will not persist.
The thing I am most disappointed with is something that most articles neglect to mention -- the 3D "eye training" doesn't bother me all that much, the weak battery doesn't really bug me either, and neither does the viewing angle thing, or the fingerprint-prone surface, the low quality camera, the misplaced stylus, etc. etc.
Its the fact that DS emulation is kinda sub-par that bugs me. Some DS games get stretched out, or look odd, or run a little slowly. If...
Lol. How does this guy still have a job? Man I wish we could re-comment on these articles after their "prediction date" has passed.
@Sanii:
Dead guys in MW2 drop straight down to the ground (or nearly), and sometimes flop around like whacked-out fish, whereas they look great, and very dynamic in SOCOM 4. The characters in SOCOM 4 are also better looking than MW2 -- the skin shader is definitely way better. SOCOM 4 is also full 720p, and MW2 is ~600p. MW2 is 60 fps, so there's that. The holo sights are cooler in MW2, as well, but the explosions, smoke, and ragdolls I'd have to give to SOCOM. <...
Wow. That is *exactly* what happened to me this morning after I played a pal's new 3DS for about 10 mins.
Wierd. I wonder if the screen tricks your eyes into going a little cross-eyed while you play in 3D?
Where did the article author get the idea that there is blind-fire?
Did he actually play the beta?
You're in luck then. SOCOM 4's graphics are already miles ahead of Black Ops, and decently on par with MW2. Maybe you should play it before commenting on it.
This guy is right... unfortunately. No magic software is going to save the day and make some game oh-so-much-cooler than every other game.
Enslaved was okay. BG&E was awesome. I'm not seeing the relationship.
You have violated the 360 fanboy temple by suggesting that you're going to play so many Sony shooters.
You will pay with disagrees for many days to come -- they work together in a pack.
Same
Awesome! Err, why no 360 I wonder, though. Same thing as the other independent dev who stated that MS told them "no, it has to be 360 exclusive, or forget it"?
This article is mostly sarcastic -- the author doesn't think the 3DS bombed, he's knocking fanboys who are foolish enough to call it a bomb by day 2.
Honestly, I don't see how the 3DS can be called a bomb before at least 2 years in the wild. Only then will we be able to judge its software performance, and see the longevity it has past the initial tech fanboy acquisition of the devices.
"Will it sell to parents/kids?", is the real questi...
You tell 'em Reggie. Put those dreamers in their place.
