Broken game ... yet still averages 12 points more than The Order (77/100 vs 65/100) which, while not to everyone's tastes, has yet to have a reported glitch.
And that, my friends, is why I stopped taking reviews seriously a long long time ago!
So I take it you're prepared to pay over $100 for games that last a long time like Skyrim, GTA, Oblivion or any game with online?
If we're looking at a correlation between game length and game price I can only assume you're happy with the other side of that coin, paying more for longer games?
Don't forget how Warhawk (IMO the best online experience of last gen) got crucified for online issues last gen. And some people perpetuated the "it's broken" message months after the game was working perfectly.
Warhawk = Driveclub
Heavenly Sword = The Order
Meanwhile other games with broken online or with the same criticisms levelled against The Order get free passes
Pretty much the same as me.
Not terrible, won't go down in history as one of the greatest. A solid 7.5-8.0.
Firstly we're not 2 years into the PS4 (only 1 1/4), there's still 9 months to go and a lot of games due out.
Secondly you specifically said best rated. Your words were "Pretty sad how Sony went from having a lot of the best rated games last gen and now to have some of the worst rated games this gen."
Note you specifically used the term "best rated".
What were the review scores for all those games you mentioned? Here let me help you:
...
But enough for reviews to vary from 1/5 to 95/100?
That's a massive variance. I can't think of another game that has as much movement between the highest and lowest scores off the top of my head.
I never expected or stated a desire for 100% consistency. All I said is usually a general consensus tends to trend out of the written core of the reviews. But in this case it's all over the place
Or to put it another way, I'm saying this level of varia...
Have you checked the dates of the highest reviewed PS3 exclusives and how long after launch they were released?
Because I remember the first year or 2 being pretty sparse ...
Really? After spending time on this site as a lurker, and giving up on other sites, I found the opposite.
Nothing is indefensible it would seem. In fact when they're wrong I find they just get more belligerent.
Why do you think I chose this user name? Because 90% of the posters here are trolling from one side or another anyway so thought I may as well play up to it!
NO! This is CONSOLE WARS dammit! It is only black or white, love or hate, there is no middle ground!
Pick a side and stand your ground you coward!
When you play the game of console wars you either win or die trying!
Fair enough. Thanks for the (civil) response
Objective is reviewing a game based on what it's aiming to achieve, not what you want it to be.
Objective is playing a game without pre-conceived notions
Objective is being consistent, so if QTE's (as an example) are an issue in one game they should be an issue in all games the same reviewer covers.
Some examples are where they review a game and say "it's almost the same as game x, not original 5/10" then a few weeks later "game x2 h...
Gametrailers just became one of the highest review scores for a PS4 exclusive from a large site?
Am I in bizarro world or something? I swear we've shifted into the twilight zone.
Personally I've not trusted gametrailers since they got caught out swapping video feeds between consoles (more than once I might add) but still ...
All debates about the true length of The Order aside, that was funny. +bub
So this game is either a near unplayable mess (4/10) or an unmissable gem (9/10)?
As stated in another thread, I haven't seen so much inconsistency for ages.
I know reviews are "opinion" (which, if you're professional, they shouldn't be, reviews should be objective, not subjective) but this much deviation from one review to the next is just crazy!
And it's not just the end score, it's the written content that varies wildly.
Very s...
Eh? Where did I say I have a problem with this review? Or that I cared what it said?
I just said it's interesting that it's not only the scores that are varying wildly but the written content as well. And I find that interesting because usually even if the scores vary wildly the written content generally comes across as similar (i.e. Same critiques, just different weightings). Because, you know, I find it interesting that here's such a lack of consensus.

So you speak on behalf of all gamers?
Reviews are all over the place. But if this game is a commercial success (i.e. sells a lot) would that then mean gamers have spoken out in support of everything you listed.
I'm just interested to find out, considering you're posting on behalf of "gamers", what defines what "gamers" want.
Is it the reviews of a handful of select people?
Or is it sales to the general public?
If thi...
Oh I don't disagree at all with that.
I was just specifically referring to the direction Septic was taking in his post.
Interesting this is the lack of consistency I'm finding in reviews.
Some say the gameplay is weak. Some say it's solid.
Some say it's almost all QTE. Some say there isn't as much as you thought
Some say it's 5 hours. Some say it's 7+
I'm trying to recall a game where reviews have been so inconsistent. I know there have been a few but they've slipped my mind.
I don't really follow reviews (have a small selection ...
@Septic - Well said.
Surprisingly enough if you go into something with pre-conceived notions (e.g. this will be a disappointment) you often find that to be the case.
It's called a self-fulfilling prophecy.
It's difficult to be objective when you've already all but made up your mind. All you do from thereon is look for things to support the opinion you already had.
Personally I enjoy games in this genre (Gears and whatnot). I also enjoy story ...
Great marketing? I've yet to see a single ad for it on UK telly (unless I'm watching the wrong channels) or billboard (in the North East / Borders)
Agree with your assessment of buyers though. Although some people here like to appoint themselves spokesperson for "gamers" more often that not the game buying public don't seem to pay their claims a blind bit of notice ....
