With mass production you can expect some electronic components will not last as long as intended and you will get some defective parts. So a few CD or DVD drives going out in a small amount of people is accepted. However I will say the PS2 had a large number of drives that went out. I’ve had Sony drives I’ve bought for PC’s and they don’t have near the operating life as even the most generic of drives I’ve had. I owned a Sony Vaio computer and the drive on that went out on me and was replaced...

It’s not about them making an expensive disk for gamming or anything like that. What this is saying is using existing DVD media with a slight modification they can increase the capacity exponentially and most likely for very little cost to consumers. The other big factor to this is current HD-DVD and BLU-Ray while yielding larger capacity than DVD, both still have to use compression to hold full HD quality movies. This technology basically puts both of them out of date because of the huge inc...

Looks like the two formats are outdated already.

I will have to say this game did suck. I played for 30 seconds and thought yea this type of crap gets released early in a consoles life but if released when there was a larger library of games it wouldn't sale well.

Take it easy dude. If the PS3 has better games and graphics so be it. However we will have to just wait and see what happens. Till then there is no need to throw insults to a system. We are all here just to game and that's about it.

If they delayed the launch anymore Sony would drastically lose support for the PS3.

Ok for one thing you must have missed the article on this site where Sony says they have not even started to manufacture the PS3. Then I guess you missed the article where Sony said they would launch with 6 million PS3, split across USA and Japan mainly. No I just think your failing to read that because they have lost so much money they do not have the funding to keep there self alive while taking the lost for manufacturing the PS3 which overall will cut down on there ability to produce the n...

LOL Sony fans really crack me up. If you want fact go look at Sony's stock. The worth of the stock did fall. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to read the loss of percentage.

Here’s fact- BLU-RAY (50GB) has a larger capacity over both HD-DVD (30GB) and DVD (9GB two-layer). However when seeing the cost to manufacture an extra 20GB on to a DVD it pretty much says BLU-RAY is not worth it. Has nothing to do with Microsoft or Sony just logic. The cost associated with BLU-RAY far out weigh the benefits. HD-DVD while not having the same capacity it uses standards physically closer to today’s DVDs making it easier to manufacture discs in existing factories and to make dri...

Gametime I think you might want to reevaluate your claims. Have you listened to anything anyone has said? Before anyone get’s a benefit from BLU-RAY or HD-DVD, they need to have an HD TV. I can tell you most people that get a PS3 will not have a HD-TV, as which is evident by only the 7% to 8% market penetration of TV’s. I really would like to see the millions of sells you’re talking about with the little adoption of HD-TV and the rather limited library and expensive price compared to DVD’s.

Well I can tell you now I'm not getting a Blu-Ray. It's got the worse reviews. They say only a marginal difference over DVD. Where as HD-DVD has a sign cant difference in picture over both of them and is only running 1080i. So please explain why we should pay higher cost for a product that as marginal gains in quality a smaller library of movies over existing cheaper technology that has a larger library of movies? Let me tell you this MPEG 2 (what blu-ray uses) will never beat out VC-1(what h...

Ok achira if and if the 1080p takes off and is a standard and nothing better comes out in two years it will be a good idea. However the price of the PS3 will have dropped in two years, so please explain what the value in rushing to get an over priced machine. HD TV’s are going to have to go way down in price, and 1080p is going to have to show a huge advantage over 720p which right now it doesn’t. Besides 720p has more of a likely hood of being in the ball park in price for the mass consumer ...

You can get a 250gb drive for $63, and hard-drive prices drop almost every 2 to 3 months, so this is very doable for a cheap price. But why bother when you have Datel XSATA for 49.99 at bestbuy.

Now all we need is Blizzard to bring back Star Craft!

Put Sony and Microsoft aside for one moment and look around you at other things. 1 being the market of TV’s. HD TV’s only have 8 to 11% market penetration. What does that mean? Most people don’t even own an HD TV. The 8 to 11% most own an HD TV that’s 720p or less. So what does that tell you? Most people don’t have 1080p and don’t care about it. Let’s look at HDMI its digital yes but the reviewers of home entertainment equipment are saying most people won’t see a difference from HDMI to Compo...

Yes openGL and DirectX are libraries that talk with the hardware. It’s a development tool and makes developing for a platform a whole lot easier. Hint, Hint (less cost in development, better quality games, and more games.) In assembly you can do the same thing these API’s do but it requires a level of sophistication above most developers. Not only that most hardware is made to support the way these API’s work. As we know not all hardware is created equally as is true with the API’s. OpenGL is...

I have to agree. The Wii is one of the more asked about consoles from what the guys at Gamestop say. As for 2011 the next xbox should be about due to come out. I wonder what this reserch was based off of.

I'm with you 100% most people don't realize Sony is only saying Blu-Ray games are need because they have a lot at stake. If they can flood the market with Blu-Ray chances are they might win the format war. Computer games are still using CD's for crying out loud and they can support better graphics.
