I think it comes with a cassette player... /s
Sorry, couldn't help myself. No, the Series S does not come with a disc drive.
MS has created a pencil sketch of their vision for next gen but they need to color it in. They need to show us a next gen game running side-by-side on a Series X and a Series S. Until then the public remains unaware of what they are truly buying. Sony still needs to fill in a bunch of blank canvas too but, at least, we have seen a decent amount of gameplay and do not have to question whether it will be different on the two versions of the PS5.
Storage is also a concern ...
Here is a good example. When PS4 was released Ubisoft had just released AC Black Flag a PS3 game that had an "enhanced" PS4 version. Yes it looked better and ran better on the PS4. I loaded up that PS4 AC Black Flag version about a month ago and it looked like sh!t compared to anything released in the past few years on PS4. The point is the Series S will be stuck in that cross-generational gap and never be able to run the true next gen games in two or three years. Doesn't a...
Yes, that's why the Tempest Engine is exciting. Again, something new and innovative in the PS5 design that is glossed over in the general gaming media.
Understood. And I'm sure they will get better at hardware design. Sony just has an outstanding pedigree and I feel they are much more capable on the hardware front. If we lived in a perfect world Sony would engineer the box and Microsoft the connectivity.
Ok. Let me get this out of my system.
I've been around for a long time, longer than Microsoft has been a company. Let's clear up one thing when comparing Microsoft to Sony when it comes to console design.
Microsoft has always been a software acquisition company (they acquired things like DOS and Word, they didn't write that stuff themselves). So, from the beginning Microsoft has leaned on 3rd party support and partnership to build their...
There is absolutely ZERO logic in your statement.
So an underpowered next gen system and monthly subscription fee has convinced you to buy into the MS BS? Okay, thanks to you we will watch mediocrity prevail this gen.
But very conveniently happened on the 25th anniversary of the PS. Sure Phil.
No, that's the truth that an MS fanboy cannot accept.
Sony has shown much, much more than MS. That's why there is hype. Just need a price and a release date. I'm sure within the next ten days you'll have it.
No offense meant to any Star Citizen fans out there but I did check into getting involved with this game about a year ago and only came away with the feeling that the entire thing is a gigantic pyramid scheme. Supposedly over $300 million in crowd funding?! Someone is getting VERY rich off of this whole deal.
This I believe. It is more than a little ironic that this info leaked and MS felt compelled to suddenly reveal all... on the 25th anniversary of Playstation. Come on. Sony has, by far, attracted the most attention leading up to launch and it is just MS playing more games to stay relevant. I would laugh for hours if Sony had a plan to undercut them if they went first. Sony can take a loss on consoles and may be willing to take an even bigger loss if they can project 75% market share this...
AND, still no games to sell said systems. MS and their fans will never comprehend games sell systems not specs.
Not that Sony will do this but if they really want to lock this up they should announce $399/$499 and include Miles Morales.
Yes, Sony is shaking in their boots... Hahahahahahaha! If Sony comes out with $399/$599 they'll still outsell MS.
To be honest SSD space is going to be an issue for all consoles this gen but, yes, 512GB is definitely very limiting. We're going to constantly have to uninstall and reinstall unless there is some great alternative we don't know about other than purchasing additional storage.
Why would Sony drop an inferior machine? It was bad enough with the current gen seeing both MS and Sony release a more powerful console mid-gen. Now MS is releasing a LESS powerful alternative console at the beginning of a generation. What is the point of it? Well, MS knows it is the only way to keep pace with PS5 sales. They'll group the S and X sales together and say "See, we're selling just as many consoles as Sony!" Apples and oranges.
I still feel like this is MS answer to stay competitive with the PS4 not the PS5. It's a nice little machine that is slightly more capable than a PS4 Pro. It is inevitable that Sony will drastically reduce the price of PS4 Pro when the PS5 is readily available. So do you buy a PS4 Pro for, maybe, $299 with an insanely large existing library or do you buy a Series S which is, technically, next gen but would function much better as a current gen system? It's a really weird business ...
Ha! We're the same age. No this is when forget how old we are. And everything else! My birth year is in my PSN ID so I remember how old I am.
