Am I the only one REALLY disappointed by the in-game graphics? They look _really_ bad. Even in this low resolution you can see the polygonal edges of the characters. In HD it's going to look worse when you can see polygons, jaggies, low-quality textures and more.
I'm going to trust that Level-5 can nail the gameplay. But I'm not getting hyped for this one just yet.
Yeah remember their big announcement for PS3 fans (to counter the loss of exclusivity) was a demo that you have to buy bundled with their film? Yeah. They suck. "Lightning may wear a hat" indeed. Or maybe at some point she wears shoes? That would be a revalation and a half.
No you're not alone. I started to lose interest when I realised that the game's been in development for so long already, and all we've seen is basically one extended trailer. All prerendered, not many hints as to story or gameplay. The last good FF IMO was FF10 and that was quite a while back. And FF10 was not nearly as good as 7,8 or 9 (9 is my personal favourite, though it was the 1st one I played..)
I feel the same way about GT5... I'm not confident the damage system will be g...
If you were really from europe you'd be pissed off, and not just drunk :P
I mind them tremendously. I'm OK with having to install a game once; that's fine. But when the install is simply there to make up for their poorly coded engine (since the game in question runs the same on PS3 and 360 except the PS3 version has an install), it's not on. My hard drive WILL fill up at some point. And you know what? Sometimes I like to go back and replay older games. But I'll have deleted their data and will have to reinstall.
Not to mention the ATROCIOUS installs in...
Installs suck big time. I'm completely pissed off that so many games are requiring installs. It's alright if it's just 1 install and you've got enough space. But what happens when you buy a few games and they ALL require installs? You run out of space! That's completely unacceptable on a console where you should just be able to put the disk in and play.
With NXE, we are going to see that actually, a lot of Xbox 360 exclusives that we _thought_ were identical to the PS3 version (w...
Variety just love to be overly critical of things and I don't know why. Look at their review of "The Godfather", regarded by many to be the greatest movie of all time. They gave it 80%, whereas every other publication gave it 100%, and here's an excerpt:
"Overlong at about 175 minutes (played without intermission), and occasionally confusing. While never so placid as to be boring, it is never so gripping as be superior screen drama."
They're full ...
Yeah I mean look at one of the best efforts of recent years...

I think the trouble is that computers need to be programmed in a different way. It still seems to me that every AI chatterbot just looks for key words in your sentence and then relays back whatever it is they know that's about that, o...
No machine has passed the turing test as of yet. No machine has ever come close. (The turing test is effectively that you can't distiguish it from a human when engaged in a text-based chat). If it had, we'd already have robots walking around our streets and our computers would be able to ask us how our day's been. The army is not _that_ far ahead of big corporations; they have the same talented guys working on developing new AI algorithms. The army are just trying with bigger computers and no...
Yeah I hate matchmaking. If I want to just join a random game I'll choose one with the lowest ping and a few players in already. I also hate games that don't list the ping of the server/individual players - I mean it's not that hard is it?
What I don't get is why in every game where there's a list of servers, I click on a server and refresh it, it's not full, press join, and then I get a "game is full" error message. WTF! I just refreshed the thing! And when I refresh a...
Tintin you are simply pointing out a major flaw in the scoring system ITSELF. If the game is really, really fun then why shouldn't it get a 9 just because it doesn't have MP? It doesn't pretend to have MP. That's not what it offers.
On the other hand, let's say there's a game that DOES have MP but it gets an 8. This game is not as good for what it is, but it's more worth you putting money down for it because it's got that much more content. If you really like MP, this will be the...
You make a lot of sense and know what you are talking about. I agree, it's like any game - there's of course going to be polish added as you approach the final build, but the general aesthetic will remain the same. To make these screens look better they'd have to redo everything, and if that's the case, why are they releasing screens?
Bubbles up.
The time it took to render the KZ2 target footage would probably have been 10 minutes per frame on a cluster of computers. But that's because you do everything inefficiently and add as many effects in as you can (like raytracing etc.) when you pre-render stuff. The AA would have been at 16x, the textures would have been very high quality, the character models would have been subsurfed loads and the particle effects would have used hundreds of thousands of particles.
That's not to...
Does no one else here use Blender? Am I alone in my using of open-source software? :(
Whoooop whilst I agree to a certain extent that it is their engine, it is also the art style they have used. And a lot of the bad graphics are caused by either shoddy particle effects (design problem) or the fact that they've had so much to do so they haven't had time to polish it.
Why are all these review sites saying the SP campaign is "horrible"? It's a very harsh criticism, especially when you consider that the mechanics are the same except the scale is enormous. Is it really that bad? Or are they completely exaggerating?

WOW what great particle effects! What great high-poly character models!

Because it's not enough that it has the best multiplayer. It's a PS3 game, so any minor complaint about graphics/story/gameplay is elligable to take off marks for. If it's Halo 3 then you can easily forgive the campaign and the graphics because of the multiplayer. If it's COD4 you can easily forgive the relatively short single-player experience, lack of co-op, and small player count on consoles. But if it's Resistance 2 you gloss over the fact that it's effectively 1 1/2 games for the price o...
I haven't seen enough that's impressed me so far. Putting graphics aside, the combat system doesn't look that great and the story is about a boy who finds a magic suit of armour...
But as I say, Level-5 rarely disappoint when it comes to RPGs so they might be able to pull it off. I don't want to get hyped for a game that could well be a flop though.
