I'm sorry but despite the promised 1080p-ness, the graphics really don't look that great at all... still should be a fantastic game though. Although I'm wondering what everyone's basing that on... the game's plot is meant to be "traditional" [generic] and from what I can see the battle system leaves a lot to be desired but we'll see.
OK you almost had me there with your 360/PS3 price comparison. But now you've gone and spoilt it by being irrational.
If they made all the text bigger so you could read it (I've had games that have had this problem) there wouldn't be so much reason to get an HDTV. Not being able to see the text sharply was one of the reasons I got an HDTV. Yes it looks great, but I do get a kind of "emperor's new clothes" vibe about the whole thing. Especially when I need to actually look closely to see the difference between SD and HD on a film. Most of the time I'm paying attention to what's happening ON the scre...
I hate(d) it how some games would not run in widescreen on a widescreen SDTV!
Yes and no.
I personally don't think MGS4 should have got nearly as many 10s as it did.
GTA4 definitely didn't deserve all those 10s.
There are quite a few games that didn't deserve 10s but they got them.
LBP probably does deserve a 10 IMO. But when you're throwing around 7s and 8s for average games, you've nowhere left to go for an awesome game.
The review system needs to be re-jigged and I blame metacritic. If your website wants to g...
I see. Thanks for that. I've seen mixed reports of the quality of the AI - but if you've played through the same level a couple of times and the limit of its "intelligence" is to go through the scripted motions each time, that's a concern. It seems like the kind of thing that's fused into the game's design (scripted elements) - so I don't know if they can rectify it fully.
Can you clarify "below average AI"? Because many people confuse difficulty with AI. Was it just that you found it easy, or was the AI actually making the other characters do stupid things? Or did the AI seem too scripted?
Usually the difficulty is toned down for public demonstrations, but the AI itself shouldn't be. Give an example of what the AI would/wouldn't do if you could. Thanks.
@ fishy
They have stated that they have dropped environmental damage for multiplayer due to technical limitations. Watch some of the beta videos - I don't see any destruction. This would be a problem they would need to overcome were they to implement co-op.
[The reason there is no cover system is not technical, it's that people would avoid using it so they would be free to move. Like MGO, no one would use it.]
Too true it does make resistance 2 look bad. For once you are right pp.
Unfortunately for you, it also makes Gears 2 look bad as well which I'm sure you'd rather not mention.
It's too bad that Gears 2 has more features than KZ2 will have at launch. I'm kind of disappointed that despite the "delay" to Feb 09 we're still not going to see co-op or split-screen at launch.
Hahaha LOL it's not going to launch with co-op - they have stated this (why would they say that if it were to come with co-op), plus, co-op would be online only.
Their environmental damage system does NOT work in the MP due to limitations of their engine and to prevent lag - they would have to implement this if they wanted co-op. Furthermore the AI would have to be adjusted and the difficulty ramped up to accomodate 2 or more players. The set-pieces might have to be redesigned ar...
Their strategy is to release their games as timed exclusives on 360. If you don't pick up a 360 for gears 2 within a year, there's no reason they _wouldn't_ release the game on PC to try and make a bit of extra cash - both from those without a 360 and from those who want superior graphics etc.
Of course they won't _announce_ the game for PC so that people buy a 360 for it. Remember that most people aren't "in the know" and wouldn't assume it was going to PC. (It still m...
OK I agree there - but surely you agree MS are just hyping up that they have "announcements" and "surprises" coming to appease their fanbase when they actually don't have much in store for 09? Think of KZ2 - yes it's coming, yes it will be brilliant, but it was shown ages ago to get everyone hyped up about the future (because the present wasn't so great). Same with the 360 next year.
Criterion are developing pay-for DLC for Burnout Paradise if you didn't know.
You realise game companies do this all the time to get you hyped for games that never materialise (BBC secret game, team ICO anyone?) If there are surprises coming, they are for 2010 most likely and will be ANNOUNCED in 09.
Not a bad score.
Maybe IGN don't want to be the ones to settle the R2/Gears 2 war?? Gears 2 is getting very high marks all round so I think it will beat R2 (just) in score, and it will trounce it in sales (double the userbase in US/UK where its biggest fanbase is).
Resistance 2 = Gears of War 2
They are just as good as each other.
Resistance 2 is as good as Gears of War 2 ;)
Why not get both?!?!?
I would trust any site that gives a video review so they can back up their arguments with actual gameplay footage.
Eurogamer usually gives unbiased reviews IMO.
Looking at it, their scores are (for the most part) in line with my own personal ratings of games.
I don't trust them as much as other sites since they don't provide a video review to clarify their criticisms/compliments.
