How can a chip, with so many cores, that is designed fundamentally around general processing, realistically offer the same graphics performance as a chip with fewer, higher GHz cores, that is dedicated to graphics? It's one thing to say "we've got 500000 cores so that makes our chip 100000x more powerful", but it's quite another to actually draw even 1% of that.
You're too right. I have to admit, the Xbox 360 is _really_ what has kept the PS3 getting new updates with more features. I think 360 fans have sony to thank for pushing MS to secure a lot of RPGs, and both 360 and PS3 fans have nintendo to thank for the coming influx of casual games.... oh wait...
Yeah all he's doing is listing the RPG elements of borderlands. It's still a shooter, but that's about where the similarity ends. In terms of graphics and production values, which applies to any game, killzone 2 has borderlands completely owned.
"There are no surprises other than RROD"
That's not a surprise, that's an expectation.
LOL one is an RPG (an action game really, not an RPG) and one is an FPS. Borderlands has more guns, items, and an open-ended environment because it's an RPG!! The "randomly-generated settlements" are little more than the SAME settlements put around the place, so even though they will look different they will be the typical Oblivion-style "oh here's another boring settlement that looks exactly the same as all the others" or "oh here's an oblivion gate that IS exactly t...
PSN games. There'll be lots of PSN games in that list (which is no bad thing), but many of those will be small games, not the bigger PSN releases. There'll be at least a couple of big game announcements, but not many more than that I expect.
I thought this was a _chance_ to win one? Or not?
I got it right - was I one of the first 500 though?
Good thing there is one of these every day, but now everyone knows the nature of the questions so everyone's going to be hunting through 1up and watching everything they can... that's exactly what they want I suppose...
Already done. I actually watched the video too. I kept this page on refresh and so, hopefully, I've got a code coming my way. It's touch and go, though :( I want this beta so badly :S
Good review, mirrors my thoughts, except I think it's easier than everyone makes it out to be (there's no way I'd ever lose a race on the slowest speed at the lowest difficulty, even with pilot assist turned off). Of course the highest difficulties (like phantom class with elite difficulty) are insanely difficult.
There is voice chat. It doesn't work though. But then, I've never got voice chat to work in any games so that's probably not a wipeout issue.
Because circle is "absorb weapon" and that term could be confused with "pick up weapon". "absorbing" is just discarding a weapon but you get some shield energy (unlike the lame system in fusion where there was a recharging "pit" area).
This game is basically the game MS1 should have been.
MS1 should have come with as many, varied tracks, split-screen, eliminator and time trial modes from the off.
MS2 has a similar level of graphical detail to MS1 from what I have seen. It looks better, but it's not miles ahead.
The big new thing they have promoted for MS2 is "THE MONSTER TRUCK"... to which, most people's reaction was, "Well done. You've added a new vehicle class. What el...
Yep this video is pretty boring, but then it is just a guy running around an empty map.
Yes but you can't deny that IF it manages to pull of slick FPS gameplay, however generic, it has the potential to be really fun. Inital feedback from beta testers has been positive.
I share your concerns. I understand. But that's no reason to hate on the game. Respect what they've done graphically, you don't have to anticipate the game. When we get to the open beta and closer to release we'll see whether the game's a dud, or if the hype is justified.
Just because we'...
I agree. But I pressed disagree by mistake.
Sorry!
Have a bubble.
No one is saying it looks awesome because they are PS3 fanboys. The game DOES look awesome.
I share your concerns about the gameplay, but I'd ask which shooters you think AREN'T generic? Most that aren't just have some sort of gimmick which separates them - even half-life 2 is generic with the gimmick being the gravity gun. It doesn't stop it being a great game.
The PS3 has a lot more game variety than the Xbox. Look at this year's lineup:
MGS4 (stealth)...
Yes absolutely. A platform to make money off of. Gears of war 2 will sell well. Gears of war 3 will sell well. Why? Gears of war 1 was pretty good. All they need to do is market it. They don't even need to improve upon/change the game. People will just lap it up, and that's a given. Look at all the hype for socom: confrontation compared to the hype for MAG. MAG is being developed by the original socom devs, and is a tactical shooter much like socom. I've seen people say they bought their PS3 ...
No I saw an interview where they confirmed no destructible environments - their tech can't handle it I presume (well it IS very difficult to do).
bring a lot of fun and enjoyment to the table for me. Of course, the gameplay itself is the major factor but if everything is pretty to look at, there aren't any graphical glitches, and the framerate is as smooth as silk, for me it makes it more enjoyable. Of course, Wipeout HD has both gameplay and graphics to a T.
Edit: Hmm... I'm guessing people didn't note the sarcasm in Xi's post - Xi thinks that graphics aren't everything so he disagrees with dj_funky.. yet you disagree and...
