I don't care if other people like it or not but there must be a _reason_ that they do, then I might see if I want to pick it up myself. I understand that graphics aren't everything but the gameplay too looks very dated to me.

Can I ask why ANYONE is hyped about this game? Every last piece of gameplay footage I have seen involves HL2-quality graphics (pretty bad) and the gunplay consists of simply standing in one place, shooting for most of it. The whole look of the game seems clumsy, in they way that there are zombies flailing their arms at characters who, not responding, are sliding across the floor - exactly like games used to be but it's starting to look dated. Most shooters nowadays have done away with the &qu...

Remote play on PSP = good it could really work
LBP seperate version on PSP = Much simpler objects, physics, community features - it wouldn't be the same.

I think that the PS3-less are running out of reasons not to get one.

LBP - one of the best games ever.
Only on PS3.

No he's not in the public eye - just yet. Wait for word of mouth to spread this. Sackboy is such a great character - I'm sure sackboy himself will sell 1/2 a million copies without anyone knowing what the gameplay's like.

I agree bumnut I have argued this for ages - if it came on multiple disks rather than having to install then it would be much quicker and better.

That said, the install helps to reduce the load times to lower than they would be even on DVD - so if it's on 360 expect longer load times, a worse framerate and multiple disks.

Yeah that's what I loved about Oblivion - but nevertheless the combat was ruined by the enemy level scaling. Combat is still a major part of fallout.

I can see some people with 20Gb and even 40Gb hard drives starting to fill them up around now. And no one wants to uninstall and reinstall games on a _console_.

That said, the game has been built around being a download - the only reason it even has a disk-based release is so they can tempt more people into getting the headset - and it will sell a lot more that way.

I mean against monsters in Nightmare/Hell difficulty. PvP is very different - anyway if you focus your skill points you can do crazy damage with a sorceress (meteor does the most at high levels). But the melee damage will do barely anything - especially when there are hordes and hordes of creatures.

Solid state drives have some other advantages:

Makes no noise - but you can't hear the sound of the HDD over the fans and blu-ray drive anyway on the PS3.
Much improved data integrity - if you decided to shake your SSD-less PS3 about a lot you might lose some of your data. But most people won't want to do that.

These both are great for my laptop, as well as the speed boost, but for a PS3 it's hard to justify the cost.

Agreed. But I think the new system is better than the old system, however I would prefer the old system reworked if you see what I mean.

I thought disk read speed was limited by the OS? So that even if it were solid-state, it would read as fast as a standard 5k RPM hard drive? Or is this not the case?

Edit: Looks like I am wrong, they have charts proving me wrong and all.

Someone without damage-enhancing _skills_ would not work past the normal difficulty in Diablo II. Strength has very little effect on increasing your damage (that's all it does) if you ARE a barbarian/paladin. A necromancer, for example, could do barely any damage to anything in Nightmare difficulty, save using corpse explosion which did a % of the dead monster's health - so you don't even need to level it up for it to be 100s of times more powerful than any of his attacks or summons.

Yes but the system needed revising, it took progressively longer to get a level-up as you progressed, yet your rewards for doing so became mostly insignificant. The life you get extra, and the damage you get extra etc. was (usually) NOT affected by life- and damage-augmenting skills and attributes. Example - I played as an amazon and I thought I'd put most of my stat points up to level 90 on Dexterity to increase my hit rating, as well as using lots on the hit-rating-augmenting skill (whateve...

This is GOOD everybody.

I'll tell you why - I don't know how many of you actually _got_ up to the higher levels and difficulties, but when you did a stat boost of 5 did diddly-squat. Even if you levelled up 5 times you wouldn't notice a significant improvement even if you put it _all_ on vitality. The game was not balanced towards the higher difficulties at all. The stat/skill points became redundant towards the end, and so it needed a desperate revamp. Heck, the stat points did ...

HD it's because they are looking for flaws to take marks off.

If you compare it to other games it's 10x more innovative and 100x as fun - it's in a completely different league. Gears of War 2, for example, is basically an improved version of Gears 1, and if there aren't any flaws to take marks away for they'll happily slap a 10 on it. It can't really be better than LBP purely because of the type of game it is.

The 10-point system is very flawed - if you look at games...

I don't think that's going to happen. Cross-game chat is a major feature and it required a lot of memory/processing power. The PS3, ironically, is not tremendously capable of multitasking (as evidenced by the slow in-game XMB) unless it's designed very cleverly from the start; the SPUs can only take a very small amount of code. If we do end up with a chat feature it will not work in all titles (just like custom soundtracks/screenshots/trophi es) because the games have not been designed whilst...

Lol I use Blender - free software FTW.

No seriously Blender is great software - when I first started using it to now you can see a VAST improvement and the number of features added (things like SSS and fluid dynamics, Softbody dynamics, strands for rendering hair and fur, it didn't even have a built in raytracer when I used it first) is amazing.

And yeah I do find it funny that people compare graphics in very simple terms and throwing in a technical term just to try ...

You could say that.

Maybe it is because I have done some 3D modelling, or maybe it's because I notice flaws in graphics before I notice the detail, or maybe it's just because I really don't like the art direction, but this game looks technically very poor. Look at the lack of detail in the environment. Look at the poor quality textures. Look at the terrible particle effects. Look at the low-poly characters. Look at the bland, bland floor.

There's something that looks...

The graphics may not matter yet, but why are they releasing those screens if they look so bad? Screens are meant to be released to hype people about the game and these put me off. The gameplay, presumably, matters - but the game is a new IP from a dev that hasn't made this type of game before. It's ripped straight from gears of war and even if they perfected the shooting and cover mechanics with graphics like that it wouldn't even come close.
