That is a fair comment.
I knew the GameCube was weaker as a console than the bxox, and had fewer games than both the bxox or ps2. But was my favourite console of that generation by far, and that was my personal preference.
If you am a halo / forza diehard, well, buy the xbone and have fun with it. What annoys me is lying about the specs, and more so the hypocrisy, considering how much negative propaganda was generated against the ps3 in its initial years arou...
And the fraud machine goes into overdrive.
Pretending the bxox one is not really outclassed by the ps4
Pretending a massive gap in graphics is note really important, just a few years after the os3 used to get ripped apart for being 1-2 frames slower than the Xbox 360
Pretending a series of generic cod clones, more halo games that barely work, and a couple of third party games purchased for big dollars would somehow bridge the gap against sony's formidable stable of...
And a generic racing game that looks like a ps3 / Xbox 369 game. Nice easy way to get to 1080p
Resistance fall of man and killzone 2 had dedicated servers, while the "pay $50 for the great service" xbox live had p2p servers for the first gears (which ended up as a largest as a result) and halo 3
Soooooo..I should simply buy a second hand gamecube, because it has the same franchises (Mario, zelda, metroid), the same gameplay, just inferior graphics
You don't get to change the rules. If a few fps of different or a minor difference in resolution was so important last generation, when it came to bashing the ps3, then you can't just wish away a massive gap in power in favour of the ps4.
And why is it gameplay versus graphics? The best gameplay last generation was also from the ps3 exclusives that blew away the competition with graphics - uncharted, killzone 2 (most underrated multilayer, overshadowed by the phenomen...
Sony exclusive 7-7.5/ 10 equates an 8.5-9 game. We have seen this so many times before, ratchet, resistance, Gt, heavenly sword. So not worried, will pick it up tomorrow and it will be a solid, well crafted game that plays just like most other racing games, but with far better, real-life graphics and attention to detail.
"most revolutionary"
Ha ha
Insomniac always make good games. The good thing for them is switching from being a playstation exclusive (generic, doesn't do anything new, story, blah blah) to xbox exclusive (10-15 points jump in average critic score, "fun", "kick-ass", etc)
Good for them though. Resistance was among the best series last generation, and I hope they sell enough on sunset, they deserve it.
I might as well pick up a second hand wii. Since it all about "gameplay" (just as well considering it's one generation behind) and you end up with the same old zelda, Mario, smash titles anyway, there is absolutely no point buying a new Nintendo console.
Replace "generate more revenue" by "get pirated" and you would be closer to the truth.
Clearly a joke and clearly kotaku up to their usual.
In any case, it should be obvious Sony depend far more on the console peasants than the PC crooks who never fail to remind us about their $1000 rigs but are too cheap to not pirate games and pay the developers for their hard work. Which is probably why Sony makes 20 times as many games for the PlayStation as they do for the PC thieves.
You might have monster trucks that have more horsepower than a Ferrari, but you don't see them brought up as a comparison when you talk about the best cars around
PCs are crap when it comes to gaming, irrespective of how strong they are. Inefficient because they have to run so many other program's unlike the sleek, efficient consoles. No standard setup unlike consoles, so too many variables to program for which means you always end up spending too much time making the...
So, on one hand...
"PS4 has no games"
On the other hand...
"Sony is evil for not giving away for free all those awesome PS4 games"
Consumer rights are not as strong and people still feel more comfortable with a brick and mortar store where they can trust the quality of the product.
That being said the penetration of online is increasing fast, but will never reach the same levels as the UK soon.
Agree, resistance 1 was such a great game, both single-player and unlit. Going back to legacy health bars and health packs made for an interesting change in strategy and gameplay.
Ideally they should have just kept the single and competitive multi as it was, and added on the 8-player coop. Unfortunately insomniac did not have the courage to stick with their own creation and made the sequel worse.
"Graphics don't matter"
is not what I heard when resistance was nitpicked to death because it was graphically not great, despite the fact that it had great gameplaay, setting and multiplayer, despite the fact that it was a launch title with a short development times.
Its not what I heard when PS3 multiplatform games were repeatedly slammed for being 1% inferior in frame rate or graphics.
Couple of other "linear" games which have as many QTEs as the Order: resident evil 4 and god of war.
By your definition, both must be really awful games.
That comment reminds me a bit of killzone. Which had the greatest graphics of any game last gen and possibly this as well.
But also had the most intense, absorbing multiplayer, and very unique gameplay based on cover, tactics and weighty weapons rather than running all over the place or camping, which is typical of a few very popular games.
Of course, the single player was not as good. But it was still better, and clearly had more effort spent on it than battlefield, call of d...
A "new standard" based on supposedly new "open-world" gameplay that multiple racing games have delivered in the past, and based on almost cartoonishly bad, fake-looking graphics, and the same tired semi-arcade, pretending to be gran turismo but failing laughably gameplay
What is truly amusing is that the much vaunted halo remake is being "destroyed on every level" by your definition, as it has the same issues with online that driveclub had.
