It means they care to make a bit more than generic shooters or the umpteenth iteration of 20-year old franchises

The order, bloodborne and the demons souls series that preceded it, heavy rain, killzone, lbp, all extremely good games which offer a very different gaming experience compared to Nintendo with the same old Mario / zelda or Microsoft with their umpteenth pew pew shooter.

That's why I love the PlayStation, you know something like the order would never be made for the other systems. And you know that massive numbers of PlayStation gamers would buy the game and enjoy it, revi...

Which is why grim fandango, order of the colossus, thief 1/2, half life and resident evil were all crappie games

Because adding a mediocre, done it before a dozen times, generic multiplayer with a few maps is enough to make a game great

Funnily enough though, when killzone launched with an excellent, slightly offbeat but different multiplayer, all the reviews focused on the single player (which was admittedly average, but still better tthan the usual cod / battlefield nonsense. Any guesses why?

As soon as I read the scores I guessed it's an xbox exclusive.
Good guess it turns out.

So, maybe halo and cod should be 3/10 games if you don't play multiplayer by the same consideration as they have short, crap campaigns, which are also linear with generic gameplay and replayability?

I hope so, it will just be another nail in the coffin for reviewers, after a game which got positive reviews from the majority of actual gamers, also got 4-6 scores from tge "professional" reviewers who also, simultaneously, lavished 8 or 9 on a game like evolve.

4040d ago 1 agree2 disagreeView comment

The problem is simply that reviewers no longer look for new experiences or gameplay.

What they have is an ideal comprising: generic pew pew shooter with a short useless copy paste campaign based on stock, laughably predictable characters and story, the inevitable add on multiplayer and loads of padding such as side quests.

Woe betide any game that deviates - ico, second sight, psychonauts or system shock would get as badly trashed if they released today as s...

The majority of reviews on amazon are positive.
If you exclude the reviews on metacrituc by "gamers" who clearly own neither the game or a ps4, the same holds true there too

I guess you define a real game as a shooter where you can go pew-pew, a short stupid campaign with one-dimensional "super-beefy" characters, a lot of generic online and lots of pointless side missions.

Thankfully, the Sony userbase has a lot of "stupid" people who actually like games like heavy rain, journey, order

Just checked amazon again, still close to 75% positive 4/5 star reviews, and significantly ahead of some "franchise" titles with boring, generic, often broken gameplay.

So, if reviews are so our of touch with what gamers view as a good game, what's their utility?

4050d ago 5 agree2 disagreeView comment

What is more important,if you look at Amazon, 75% of the reviews are 4/5 stars, which is a higher ratio than say evolve or some of tge latest iterations of big franchises - unsurprisingly because those titles have weaker single player, often even shorter than the order, generic gameplay and horrific technical issues at launch.

Yet, the order has lower average scores and even more damningly more "4/10" reviews. Which makes reviews a laughing stock.

No, on so many counts.
It is beautifully made, not just "beautiful". There is a difference.

Its not all you want from a game, but then it's not all or even most of what this game is about.

And yes, it's not a launch title. Simply because, whether you like it or not, this is a game that is so clearly evident, when you actually play it, is a labour of love. Rushed out launch title it's not.

So, from "short" or "nothing new" to "boring"
Must be something wrong with the large number of gamers who are going to love this game, just like heavy rain, or shadow of colossus or beyond two souls (which Incidentally has a review average barely above order)

Meanwhile, we have a long list of generic shooters, once every year multiplayer with awful tacked on 4-hour campaigns, flat out broken games, which end up scoring better reviews than...

Have played upto chapter 3 - great game.

If all you like is doing pew-pew in multiplayer in cod 11 or halo 8, or 50-hour games like destiny, not for you. If you like immersion, story and a great setting backed up by solid gameplay, and if you enjoyed heavy rain, beyond and last of us, go for it. Worth the money.

4052d ago 4 agree7 disagreeView comment

Maybe they should have simply made a generic cod multiplayer clone with no single player to begin with instead of building a great new ip with excellent settings and gameplay

4057d ago 16 agree4 disagreeView comment

strange how the massive open environments and long campaign / value of killzone SF never got a mention, but "open world" became so important when it came to driveclub or this game.

What is really funny is though, the ps4 will soon come up with some awesome open world exclusives using the sheer power in the console, and you will find these same idiots claiming "game length and open world doesn't matter, it's all about the quality, blah blah"

I think I will buy 2 copies, just to show the middle finger to the "non-playing" reviewers

Because he doesn't own a ps4 in the first place?

4077d ago 3 agree3 disagreeView comment

Oh, we are not comparing the two games. DC stomps over the last-gen generic monstrosity that is FH2. if anything, FH2 should be compared against other mediocre racers such as the Crew which rely on the "open world" tagline to paper over their last gen gameplay.
