Agreed Nuka. I'm kind of surprised the author didn't mention Kingdoms of Amalur though. I'm really looking forward to that one.
Agree with the blogger. I mean Xenoblade and Last Story were literally the ONLY reasons I bought a Wii. I guess shame on me for thinking that Nintendo would do the right thing and bring these stateside.
Because that would amount to taking out your frustration on Monolith Soft (the developer), when they have nothing to do with this. This is Nintendo dropping the ball.
I was wondering if/when this was going to happen. Time to sharpen my pencil! After all, this game and Last Story were really the reasons I bought a Wii...
I love these "Sony could learn from ____" articles, as if the company that has sold the most consoles in gaming history has no idea how to make good hardware...give me a break Modojo.
Amen pizza!
I think the trend toward making games more like movies (as the author mentioned) has been damaging to the narrative. I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting higher levels of presentation a la movies, but I would argue that if developers would take inspiration from books they could improve narrative quality.
All of the above posts provide the main reason why Square Enix shouldn't remake FF7; which is, that it will be impossible to please everyone. This game is beloved my many and is considered by lots of people to be the greatest FF and/or one of greatest RPG's of all time. Remaking a game that carries that kind of weight could be a nightmare.
And even if Square nails it, there will be plenty of people who won't be satisfied. Maybe it's because FF7 fans are a...
@JPS94
Wow that's a whole 4 people!!!!!!!
That must mean that EVERYONE is doing it!
@militant
Source? Numbers? Percentages?
...oh wait, you can't give any of that b/c you're making it up. I can easily counter your statement though, by saying...
Many have not switched here.
There - see how easy it is to make things up?
Of course they will...I mean EVERYTHING they do is groundbreaking, remember?
*end sarcasm*
@ Tretton
You're right, movies and games are both forms media where the player/viewer can escape reality. I think what some people are trying to say, though, is this:
More detail = always good
Focusing on photo-realism = not always good
Enhancing player immersion through graphical progression should not be solely defined by making games look and feel like real life. If that were the case, games would be nothing more than ...
I'd have to disagree. It's certainly part of what next gen hardware is about; but I would argue that jumps in physics and animation capabilities, along with more space to flesh out game design are an important part too.
Gamingdroid - you nailed it. I think art direction trumps graphics everytime. My question is, where are all the games with unique art direction this gen? Many people disgaree with me, but I think consistently choosing photo-realism as a template for art direction is a bad idea; yet it seems that's exactly what most developers are doing right now. To me, it seems like gamers have a choice between photo-realism and anime art direction right now (especially in RPGs). I hope developers r...
I might some disagrees for saying this, but I think he's wrong by saying making graphics more life-like will increase immersion. I think that one of the problems with RPGs today is that developers are making them so life-like that the player can't fill in the gaps with their imagination. There is no other genre that is more akin to "playing a book" than an RPG. With that said, developers are trying hard to turn the RPG experience into that of a movie, instead of embracing...
Damn right. Last Story and Xenoblade are pretty much the reasons I bought I Wii. They better come stateside!
@ ChristianGamer
Haha, I know I mean that's just so awesome that Kinect is selling so well. It's sales obviously attest to the fact that it's the greatest piece consumer hardware ever created...ever...nothing will ever be better...unless MS creates Kinect 2.0. If that happens I'm pretty sure my brain will explode from all the orgasmic possibilities!!
In fact, I'm going to go buy a 360 and Kinect right now so I can play...the river ra...
I think the "game's aren't art" argument is kind of funny. I mean developers have art direction departments that churn out sketch after sketch of characters, environments, etc. The majority of people would agree that these sketches constitute "art." But the moment a programmer comes in and turns that sketch into a 3D model, it's no longer art? The logic doesn't add up.
Wow...I'm not sure where to start, or why I'm even wasting my time considering there really is no talking sense into you.
First, I didn't ask you to tell me how many commit murder in order to establish secular states. I asked you how many people kill in the name of abortion of homosexualty. Nice job of dodging the question...
Second, I challenge you to show me 1 case of homosexualty that is SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN to be a "sickness.&quo...
Uh...seriously? Maybe you should watch some Discovery Channel or Nat Geo there buddy, because homosexualty is very common in animal kingdoms. But that's just the first dumb thing that I got from reading your post.
Let me ask you - how many people have committed murder in the name of abortion or homosexualty? I'm sure you don't know the answer. The truth is, neither to do I. But I can tell you one thing, it's a HELL OF ALOT less than murders committed i...
It has nothing to do with "following the herd." The game was, by in large, a disappointment when compared to most previous Final Fantasies and recent offerings from companies like Bioware, Bethesda, and Level 5. The only high points for FF XIII I can think of are the graphics and the battle system - and even those had their flaws.
The narrative was chock-full of plastic emotions, like when - SPOILER ALERT - Lightning finds out that humanity are like "pet...
