I'd honestly have to go with the PS1. I was going to say the fat PS3, because of backward compatibility, but I feel like that's cheating a bit. So PS1 it is...mainly because of Xenogears. But also heavy hitters like FF7, Crono Cross, Legend of Dragoon, FF9, and many others (can you tell I like RPGs?). Plus, the PS1 is the console that brought 3D gaming to me for the first time, and I feel like that opened up a whole world of new interactive possibilities.
@ Garethvk
Look at their history and tell me the shoe doesn't fit. It's like saying "I can't believe that people are consistently suspicious of the Patriots cheating." Given their track record, why wouldn't you be suspicious?
I'm not saying they are definitely plotting something "evil," only that consumers should be at least a little bit skeptical of their motives based on past dealings.
Easily two of the best-written characters in Final Fantasy history. Their personalities were genuine; their struggles were real. This was Sakaguchi's ode to all FFs before it. Personally, I think he nailed it.
@BaseAllStar
But good gameplay will always be good and good stories will always be good, so why should the console generation matter?
Go re-watch footage of FF15 and Horizon. If you still think this is the best looking game on consoles, you need your eyes checked.
Show me where X1 outsold PS4 worldwide during that month. It didn't...therefore, it didn't touch it.
@Summons75
Thank you!! I can't believe I had to read 12 other earlier posts before someone said this. How in the hell would this guy know what Square is planning on charging? Instead he just assumes things and starts shouting so his blog will get hits.
If L. Ron Hubbard can do it, why the hell not?
@ star lancer
The difference is one is getting spanked and the other is doing the spanking. I'd be willing to bet a year's salary that PS4 wouldn't need a price cut in October or during the holidays to annihilate XB1 in worldwide sales.
@ Jalva
Did you start gaming last gen or something? The main reason Sony is beating MS is because that's what they've always done. They've been the face of console gaming for 20 years. PlayStation is the stronger brand and it's truly showing thus far this gen.
@beans
They also "rode" the fact that they have been the dominant force in console gaming for over two decades. News flash, Sony didn't enter gaming with the PS3...they were crushing it for a long time before they slipped up with PS3. They've been successful with the PS4 because they reminded gamers why they were successful in the past. It's not surprising that they're beating the Xbox... PlayStation is the superior brand in gaming...regardless o...
This has a unique look. I'd like to see it on PS TV too.
Really brotherlymoses? Is that why they had the most exclusive GOTYs last gen? Or how about how the libraries of the PS1 & PS2? Show me one Xbox console that can top what Sony has brought to the table over the last 3 generations and I'll never say another word.
BTW, I'm pretty sure "greatess" isn't a word...
Easy answer: Because they always have. PlayStation is the stronger brand...always has been.
@air
So let me get this straight - you see a bigger difference in your GAMING machine by having voice commands than you do with having better graphical fidelity for your GAMES?? That makes absolutely no sense...
And by the way, many of the XB1's trendy features, like voice commands, are also being done on smart TV's.
I think the Xenogears intro should be on this list, simply for its "holy hell, what is going on here?" factor.
@ Multi
They're calling it that because that's what it is. The nomenclature will change if the end result does (I.e., the decision to keep divisions versus liquidate).
Wow, you're misinformed. Do yourself a favor and look at Sony's Q3 earnings for 2013. You see the section that says Games? I'll fill you in - it says "Net Operating Income = $172 million."
You're trying to use the global picture to spin the facts. It's like saying that if "Division 1" is making a $20 million profit, but "Division 2" is taking a $25 million loss, the success of Division 1 is meaningless. Obviously this lin...
Dragon,
I agree that FF7 is overrated in terms of delivering an unrivaled gaming experience, but goldwyncq is correct in stating that no other console RPG has been as influential. I've been playing RPGs since the Dragon Warrior (Quest) days, and I will tell you that no other RPG had the impact that FF7 had when it dropped. If you typed the game into a search engine, you would get literally hundreds of fan-made webpages.
Arguing against the influence o...
@Shadow
But Halo and Gears weren't overrated at all, right? Right...
