Trying to figure out if Sony can make a patch for this considering the PS3 doesn't have a dedicated hardware scaler. Using the Cell/RSX to handle the scaling for movies should work, but wouldn't for games.
Do you have a link for HDTV standards? Not questioning you or anything... just want to read. Thanks...
Maybe you can answer this since you know the PS3.. Does the PS3 have a dedicated scaler chip? If it doesn't, I understand that the Cell/RSX can handle the scaler functions for the movies, but what about games? It couldn't do the games since it would affect overall speed.
ONE good review of the machine. But the guy didn't really seem to have played a lot with the console. Every other reviewer complained how many steps it took to navigate the PS3 UI.... oh well
IGN - NFS Carbon ( http://ps3.ign.com/articles... "Visually, the PlayStation 3 version of Need for Speed Carbon falls short of its Xbox 360 counterpart. The two games run at roughly the same framerate, but the PS3's filtering effects, specifically the blurring, can be ugly. Road textures look nice and detailed at low speeds, but when you're flying down the road and the game blurs everything, they simply loo...
"In the USA, "HD Ready" refers to any display that is capable of accepting and displaying a high definition signal at either 720p, 1080i or 1080p using a component video or digital input, and does not have a built-in HD-capable tuner." -- So is it HD-Ready as long as it supports any one, or must support all?
"Alas, if you don't have a set that does 1080i or 1080p, you're going to be forced into 480p which is far less impressive. PS3's lack of a scaler bites it again. 720p output is not available on the titles we tested."
So let me get this right.. if you don't have 720p and only have 1080i for games, then you're scaled to 480p. For movies, if have 720p, but don't have 1080i/p then you get 480p? Are there TVs that have 720p and not 1080i/p?
Include component.. that's a very common connector for HD. Sony includes a Blu-ray player for HD stuff.. atleast include cables to see it.
"Wondering why the online audio in Resistance: Fall of man works so well? Sony tapped VoiceAge Corporation to enhance the online audio. VoiceAge technology is said to "dramatically enhance voice communications" by allowing for greater clarity and a more dynamic range." -- So RFOM already had this and its not a standard.
"VoiceAge hopes other companies will see the improvements in Resistance and make use of the technology. Of course, that will come at a ...
"Well why support 1080p when there are NO 1080p TV's out?" Guess what... now that Microsoft supposedly supports 1080p everyone advocating their decisions thinks it was a GREAT idea."
At the time 1080p TVs were expensive and rare. Now that more TVs support 1080p and not at a premium, MS added this feature. Big Deal.. They still believe that 720p is the sweet spot.
Now when Sony boasts about 1080p and that all games will be 120fps. Now that is bad. In all th...
Did hell freeze over? The article favored the 360 and videl didn't accuse the writer as being an xbot or that he was paid by MS!
Just messin with you, videl :)
How could Sony overlook this considering they make TVs? No way its an "OOOPS".
"So Sony overlooked this small population of Tvs. I have a Sony Trinitron WEGA CRT HDTV and it outputs 480p/i, 1080i and 720p. Technology advances, it doesn't stand still."
Yeah and that's why Sony included composite cables? Technology advances?
Is it me or is it getting kinda ugly? Lots of middleware... mickeymouse patch jobs
So if PS3 doesn't have a dedicated upscaler chip, then what?
"Knowing they did this one without a final dev kit, I'm surprised they bothered rushing it out for launch. Very disappointing."
I think developers are following Sony's lead and just rushing things out :)
Yeah.. I think FXIII is like 2% done and not slated till 2008. No news in regards to Killzone.
I really don't blame people for questioning Sony for CGI vs gameplay, considering their track record of their main titles.
Pretty brutal.
I'm sure RFOM is a really good game, but how can Sony fans say its a killer-app? That's the game you want PS3 to be connected to? A game that got an avg of high 8s and was considered to have just OK graphics?
Motorstorm on the other hand is starting to look promising, but I'll wait. I still believe its not close to the E3 2005 CGI.
By the way, 360 had a stronger launch titles. Here's some scores (got bored and wanted to settle this).

I just read a couple of forums and it seems some Sony TVs also doesn't support 720p. Looks like early Sony tubes. So by Sony blaming the tv manufacturers, they're actually blaming themselves?
