Rubbish. There's hundreds of $600 PC builds that smash the consoles and also maintain 1080p 60fps. The more expensive are for 120fps or 1440p / 4k.

Don't feel bad. It's a fantastic hobby that's far cheaper than you think, and a damn sight cheaper than my other hobby of modding cars. I feel bad for people subjecting themselves to playing a game at 30fps.
Or 120fps on a 144hz screen if your a fiend like me.

Oh yeah.. I downloaded DOTA2 this week for the first time to give it a try.. It was free. Left 4 Dead 2 was recently free too.
I also bought tombrraider on sale by selling me Steam trading cards too.. Umm.. Free, just from playing games.
But way to justify paying for some...
I'm in the same boat. I have a 1080p 144hz monitor. Once you open Pandora's box on 90fps + gaming... You'll never want to go back.
It's a blessing and a curse at the same time.

144hz are very reasonably priced.. Some of the 1080p screens go for under $250. Or.. Just overclock your 60Hz panel and see how high you can get.
