CHARACTER

There were two other games that really grabbed me last year with a similar self assured character that fed through every coded vessel... Little Big Planet and Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.

Between the three of them they represent something that has sadly been lost in the churn for FPS and same-ol sequelitis.

Nuts n Bolts rocks!

Seriously amazing experience. I still play it even after SFIV, Killzone 2 and Res Evil 5 came out. Mind you I still play a lot of those too...

Haha that's funny. I didn't rate this one much but actually really enjoyed Knothole!

Although this one's a lot more interesting with puzzling and fan made conspiracy theories... god game anyone?

The RTS stuff looks cool, but I couldn't really care for the apparent grind of the rest of it.

Nice to see EA trying new things though, as opposed to the "new EA" Activision! lol

I'd like to say I missed you but I'd have to be blind to reality first... In fact I used to wonder if it was the eye patch affecting you! lol

Either way you're a shining example of what this site has become.

As for the article, I agree with Kaim. It should be pulled immediately.

EDIT @ Kaim

Agreed. The Examiner does suck! But where's that N4G filter? ... ;)

I can't wait! :D

He may be made of awesome... but the Wheelman was not! lol

Too Human was a good idea executed poorly, and promoted horribly by Dyack.

Eternal Darkness on the other hand is brilliant, but a remake would only ever be on the Nintendo platform. :(

That just tells me your a Ford & Wayne man rather than Leoni or Peckinpah. ;)

Spaghetti westerns ftw!

The trailer tells me nothing about the game.

These guys need to speak to Rockstar about trailers. Red Dead Redemption has ordinary looking graphics and was completely under everyone's radar and then BAM one trailer and it's a spaghetti orgy of hype!

What I don't get is they all look like tech demo fly throughs and always end with those two Fable 2 like-Hobbe ripoffs round a camp fire accompanied by that ultra serious gruff voice actor saying "RISEN!"

As you note it's all about the balance of risk/reward... so while things are cheap there's a lot of risk in untested IPs, particularly from untested developers. One way to mitigate that risk is to only acquire IP that fits into popular genres/markets that aren't oversaturated with content.

I think forget EA as they're in a cost cutting mood. But keep your eyes on Acti-Bliz as they have plenty of cash to buy up cheap devs and IP if it suits, particularly if it fits something tha...

Err actually they tend to plug PS3 games a lot.

They were even at the Killzone 2 launch and gave the game like a 9/10! lol

And if I remember correctly they gave GOY to MGS4 last year, which as much as I enjoyed it, kinda pissed me off... I had other favourites.

But whatevs each to their own, but plenty of kudos to OXCGN for keepin it real. :)

I have no doubts we'll see Alan Wake for a number of reasons, some which I can't share, but the most obvious is that it has a solid publishing agreement which many of the others simply don't!

Seems like many are concepts or working prototypes that developers are trying to sell off to publishers, in what is a buyers market if a publisher is willing to take the risk.

Having said that, Edge of Twilight, Dead Island (zombies!) and The Crossing sound promising.

I don't know yyyyyyyyy... could you tell me?

Agreed this game looks excellent. I couldn't help but notice some Lost Odyssey influence on the mood/themes though... seems much darker than the usual FF stuff.

Yeah I was going to elaborate on what lips do with stuff like it "blows" or "sucks"... but that's probably a bit too harsh!

Lips is a "wet" IP with some great design ideas, but only executed adequately. It looks pretty with a nice coat of "lipstick" and its good to see it "kissing" MS's ass for continued support, which is sure to have MS "smiling" as it improves with inevitable sequels (just like its competition has)....

I see what you did there... :/

Can't wait for Mass Effect 2, Assasins Creed 2, Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2 and as of today... Splinter Cell: Conviction! :D

I think twitter is viable... it's just that nobody has worked out what for yet... just like Google Maps, Facebook and MySpace before it.

I think twitter is a valid news source if its from a developer/publisher, but there needs to be some form of journalistic effort in not just reporting, but analysing the news and its possible consequences, rather than the 100 word stories the article mentions that just state what the twitter feed did.
