It's funny you mention Metacritic scores. Whilst I think there a decent indicator of game quality I don't always believe its resolute. So I've started to invest money in buying those divisive titles with wide spread reviews or mixed scores.
Folklore, Lost Odyssey and Eternal Sonata have been more than pleasant surprises and I have Infinite Undiscovery on the way. Also worked wonders for Too Human, Banjo Nuts & Bolts, and EndWar.

5 360 games this gen with an average Metacritic of like 82? Plus a DS game, Microsoft's Avatars, four XBLA titles and three secret projects. All in four years.

Molyneux will do Rare wonders in raising the studio's profile and games to a broader audience that wants to play innovative and diverse titles, rather than a hardcore audience that seems to simply want remakes of old classics.
Yeah I actually think Infamous is its own game entirely no need to compare the two. Instead...
Infamous is like GTAIV, Prototype is like Saints Row 2.
But I think that's largely a reflection of the decline of Eastern game developers and the rise of Western developers and console gamers.
This generation is quickly becoming a landmark for the Western RPG and I only expect it to get better.
And whilst the JRPGs are not as great as the collective of previous gen, this gen has yet to run and I'll always argue Lost Odyssey was amazing to my grave! lol

I love Lost Odyssey. I doubt this is as good... LO was a 9/10 in my books.
But for AUD$50 that I saw it on sale today, I might just have to pick it up!
Agreed about the awesome RPG library. It's not close to PS2 greatness, but damn it's a mile ahead of the competition this gen.
However, you still need a PS3 for Valkyria Chronicles and Folklore. ;)
I think the release disc comes with just over 100 tracks, of which the mix is about 60:40 to real vs fantasy.
There's 400 cars out of the box.
In both cases I think the numbers will double a year after release if the game sells like the last one (4 million) and Microsoft gets all giddy with DLC. I think the latter is already a given and the former is higly likely with the cheaper Xbox and larger install base. ;)

The 24mins racing Le Mans at the end of each season of GRID became very old and very annoying... and very quickly!
Having played L4D2 privately with Valve at E3 I can assure people that the sequel is very much justified with the AI Director 2.0 a startling improvement on the original.
The boycott might subside as Valve has the sense to reveal more of the details that I was lucky enough to be privy to. ;)

After seeing the ambition in GTAIV and realising they had the tech to do a Western proper I had no worries.
The Rockstar guys are just as much film geeks as I and the Western genre has a particularly rich history to draw from.

Using average annual sales is a furfie and not a measure used to project future sales. It's a very good way to not see the forest for the trees.
The key measure is year on year sales as it indicates sales momentum and future sales potential. An annual average doesn't show who is accelerating, who is on cruise control and who is slowing down.
In that regard the PS3 has had falling year on year sales now for over six months. Sony is doing all the right things so far to...
But I've given up on all these new SKUs. I've got my backward compatible PS3, a launch day 360, a Wii, and a standard DS.
Forget about the Elites and DSis of this world I'm just gonna spend my money on the games instead! :)
