Only Nintendo fans will happily re-buy their crappy handheld products, over and over, to get new "features" that should have been included on Day 1. Unbelievable.
No, third parties aren't to blame for this; Nintendo is, for making very weak, feature-lacking, gimmicky hardware that doesn't showcase games well at all. Wii U can't even match crossplat games from the 360/PS3, the system stutters and fails to best those consoles that came out EIGHT years before it. Don't believe me? Just check the Eurogamer face-offs for Wii U games vs. 360/PS3, the Wii U just can't keep up. No blame for third parties on this, its all on Nintendo its...
Yep, and being an online-only game with no SP content really killed it for a lot of people. I prefer SP games and wouldn't touch Titanfall even if it were given out for free.
Nintendo's pitiful amount of storage (internally) on the Wii U is going to hurt them when it comes to sales of digital games. History has proven time and again that, when you don't include features in every console "in the box", you can't count on people to buy extra accessories to take advantage of them. 32gb (max) of internal storage is far too little to store digital purchases, so many people simply won't buy more than a small amount of content. It's a sham...
Poor gimmicks combined with weak hardware are why Nintendo is failing these days. It's really no more complicated than that.
Totally agree. Motion controls are one of the worst things to have happened to gaming, all they added was a gimmicky way to play games, worse than any standard controller. They caught on as a fad but quickly died, and even created a huge problem when Microsoft poured too many resources into the Kinect for the XB1, at the expense of the console itself.
Unfortunately, Nintendo no longer has the engineering/technical know-how to design solid gaming hardware. Just look at the Wii, 3DS, and Wii U and you'll see that they just can't compete in those areas anymore. All are pretty poorly-designed devices that are also hugely lacking in the most basic features.
Too bad all Nintendo is known for these days are bad gimmicks and poorly-designed hardware. They certainly innovated in the past, but that doesn't excuse their recent products.
Wii U really is a last choice for gaming, behind at least five other options (PS3, 360, PS4, XB1, and PC). Nintendo's obsession with gimmicks to try to set themselves apart has been their downfall. Most gamers don't want to be forced to use these gimmicks, they just want solid gaming hardware that will hold up for years. Let's hope Nintendo wakes up to realize this if they even release a successor to the WiiU.
I think it's pretty obvious to everyone that the Wii U has been "in trouble" for quite some time. In the long run, it will sell to diehard Nintendo fans, but be shunned by most serious gamers. Nintendo has tried hard to set themselves apart from the competition, by building all their recent systems around questionable gimmicks. That worked well with the Wii, but not nearly as well with the Wii U.
Maybe next time, they can just focus on a decent, solidly-desig...
Unfortunately, it won't be enough to save the system in the long run. Shame Nintendo didn't focus more on solid system specs instead of gimmicks, but to be fair, that approach did work for them with the Wii.
"Four times" almost nothing, is still almost nothing.
No one in their right mind buys digital games from Nintendo. If your console breaks or is stolen, you lose all your digital purchases. Nintendo's harsh anti-consumer DRM is the reason for that.
Shame about the Wii U, it just wasn't designed to compete in the current generation. Maybe next time Nintendo will skip the gimmicks and focus on solidly-designed hardware instead.
The biggest problem with Titanfall? No single player content whatsoever. Makes it easy to pass on this game for many of us who prefer SP games.
I don't blame Ubi for skipping the Wii U for more adult-oriented games; most Wii U owners just buy the more casual, family-friendly Nintendo first party games on that system, and skip everything else. And the console doesn't have enough power to handle current-gen games at the level of XB1/PS4 anyway, so why bother?
I agree, it really should be cross-buy for all 3 platforms. But eventually, I'll buy it anyway. Not at full price though.
... if you're under 8 years old.
Who listens to podcasts anymore? Boring.
I said this in another article, but it still holds true. Only Nintendo fans would continually re-buy their crappy handhelds to get incremental upgrades that should have been included on Day 1.
The original 3DS had a tiny low-rez screen and only one analog, the XL increased the screen size (sadly making games look worse due to the low resolution) but left out the 2nd analog, and now they're releasing a THIRD set of models with the 2nd analog added! Why don't their ...
