Too bad there are almost no "triple AAA first party" games coming out for it for the foreseeable future. I'd much rather have a Vita than a Wii U anyway, that gamepad is nothing more than a gimmick, and the console itself is beyond weak.
Wow, so both Bayonetta 2 and Hyrule Warriors have bombed in Japan? Let's hope both titles do a lot better in the West, for Nintendo's sake.
This could have something to do with PlayStation TV's release the following week. Looking forward to the update for themes though!
EDIT: Looks like it's the themes update, thanks for the info SaffronCurse!
Unfortunately no amount of advertising can make the Wii U a better product, or add back the many features that Nintendo cut out of it to accommodate the expensive gamepad. They really should have put more thought into the design of the console, if they were serious about being competitive, this generation.
What? Check your numbers, Wii U sold 65k consoles for the entire month of August, worldwide. The sales bump from MK8 is long gone:

I think you're absolutely correct. Japan no longer matters in the console market, they've moved on to cheap mobile games instead. Pretty sad.
Leave it to Playeressence, one of the most biased pro-Nintendo websites out there, to try to spin this game's "success" in whatever way they can. W101 was a complete failure worldwide, so comparing B2 to it is nothing more than a desperate attempt to make it's launch look successful.
Having said that, the real story about B2's success or failure (financially) will be told when it is released in EU and NA, not Japan. The Japanese clearly gave up on co...
It's funny that Nintendo fans complain bitterly about the lack of third party support for Wii U, but then simply don't buy third party games when they come out on the console. Face it, most of those fans bought the Wii U for Nintendo's first party games, and not much beyond that.
Unfortunately that's a recipe for the console to fail, which is exactly what is happening to the Wii U. The sales bump from MK8 is gone now, shortly after that game launched. The...
Looking forward to Minecraft on Vita! I have Terraria on almost every platform available, and the Vita version is one of the best, a fantastic port; I expect Minecraft to be really good as well.
Wow they've been hyping Bayonetta 2 for over a year, and they only moved 38k copies week one? That's really sad. Although to be fair, the Japanese don't care much for console games anymore, they're no longer a good measure of the market (mostly into handheld or mobile games these days).
The real test will be Bayonetta 2's sales in EU and NA, that will tell if it has a chance of success.
Wow your comment is dead-on, I totally agree with everything you said. Nintendo's hardware has been cheap and feature-lacking for many years now, it's as if they deliberately aim for the cheapest possible hardware, by cutting out features and lowering specs, to maximize their profits. Year after year they do the same thing, but their diehard fans are so desperate for more Mario, Zelda, etc. games, they buy the crap anyway. It's time for their fans to stand up and demand better ...
Doesn't really matter what changes they make to their draconian, anti-consumer DRM (digital purchases are tied to hardware). Since they only put a pitiful 8 or 32gb storage in the Wii U; very few people will purchase much digitally due to the severe lack of storage. Larger titles will eat up that storage very quickly. And mist people won't bother with an external HDD, only the diehard fans will bother.
Shame they didn't put more storage into the Wii U, but tha...
Love the pixel art, and the music sounds great. Would love to see this on Vita.
Nope, at this point the Wii U is unlikely to break 20 million units in its lifetime. Nintendo should have done a lot better job on the design of the console, left out the gimmicky gamepad and just focused on a solid console that could serve it's fans for many years. Instead, the threw in a bulky, awkward, distracting gimmick, scaled the base console WAY back, and hoped the suckers would buy. Unfortunately for Nintendo and its few remaining fans, that failed.
-Foxtrot, this is exactly Nintendo's problem. In order to "set themselves apart" from their competition, they build their hardware around unappealing gimmicks, and are forced to downgrade the base console to accommodate the high cost of the gimmick. They also aim for a bare-bones hardware design, removing as many features as possible (and keeping specs to a bare minimum), to keep their profits as high as possible. This approach has resulted in some very poor hardware from Nin...
A much better, more definitive version of this game has been out for a long time on PSP, playable on Vita (Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles). The PSP version also has enhanced 2.5d graphics, redone cut-scenes, and two other unlockable games included (Turbografx-16 version of Rondo of Blood, and a port of Symphony of the Night). A bit late to the game for Wii U, and without any enhancements at all.
When the Wii U hits $99 in the bargain bin next year, I may buy one; but there really aren't many compelling games for it, unless you're a diehard Nintendo fan. You can only play so much Mario, Zelda, DK, etc. before you get tired of the same old, same old.
No, it isn't. A "3 out of 5" is the equivalent of a 6 out of 10, or a 60 out of 100. That's mediocre, far from "pretty good".
You can always count on MSBAUSTX to run damage control for the failed Wii U, sadly nothing he says is going to change the fate of that console. It was doomed the day it released, thanks to (once again) being based on a gimmick tied to cheap hardware, just like the Wii before it.
The Wii did better at first, but died an early death years ago when the fad fizzled out. You'd think Nintendo would have learned, and not taken the exact same approach for Wii U? But here they ...
Nintendo is way too greedy to offer cross-buy, they always charge the maximum amount and rarely give gamers any breaks. Plus they have lost money every year for the last three years and burned through over $3 billion of their cash reserves, makes them a lot less likely to do anything like cross-buy.
