I've had my 360 since Christmas '05, which was a launch console, which has been replaced cuz it crapped out on me. I just got an HDMI capable TV and I'm interested in the Elite, but I don't think the trade-in is a good deal at all. It might be a good deal if the trade-in for a Premium was worth at least $350. No way can I justify spending more for a 360, that has less features than a PS3. Besides, the Elite uses HDMI 1.2, while the PS3 uses 1.3. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, please. Ah wel...

I have a launch console, and it died middle of January. I turned it on to play Gears and there was a console update so I updated, then Gears loaded and there was an update for Gears so I updated. UPS didn't return it by accident. For one, I tracked my outgoing package all the way to McAllen, TX. Then once it got there, I kept calling Customer Support to get the tracking number on the package coming back. It was in a different box, with different packaging.

Mine worked perfectly from Christmas '05 until Jan. this year. Then I had a console update and an update for GoW and then it stopped working. I've never dropped it, bumped it, spilled anything on it, mishandled it in any manner, or kept it in a non-ventilated area.
Unless they peeled my serial number off the back, and put it on a new console, it's the same console. I wrote it down for my own reference, and when I got it back, I checked the serial number on the back and it was the same one.

I own a 360, but it doesn't matter to me how many MS shipped or sold. I don't care if they fell short of their projections or goals. It doesn't do me any good one way or another. Even if it is just shipped, they'll stilll sell 10 million first, and I guess that's what this is all about. People need to stop arguing about this crap so much. :-\

#16 - I didn't know I was gonna have back to back updates. That being said, it booted up fine after the console update I believe, so whatever happened was after the Gears patch. :-\ I will keep this tip in mind for future updates.
#17 - I did call customer service and the lady said my repairs shouldn't cost me anything. My pre-paid shipping box should be here within a couple days. After that, it should only be another six to eight days for me to get my console back.

The game looks great but the gameplay is mediocre. After playing this demo, it took me a while to re-adjust to the Forza 2 demo. I'll take Forza 2 over this any day. :-)
