"European PS3s will not support backward compatibility in hardware, but rather through software emulation. The hardware that basically allows a tiny PS2 to live in your PS3 is being yanked out for cost reasons. What does this mean for our readers over the pond? Well, mates...it doesn't look good. Software emulation is how Microsoft supplies its limited backward compatibility in the 360. Support (and we use this term loosely) for this feature has all but disappeared."
...
They're a little uninformed about the backwards compatibility issue. There are going to be about 1,000 games ready for launch- comparing it to the 360's BC isn't very accurate. The PS3 will also begin to upscale games this way eventually.
Also, 1up can lick my balls for making a title for this article that looks like they have info about the v2.0 March update just to get more traffic to their PS3 bashing fetish.
I think it's probably because Gamespot is filled with idiots. I haven't gone to that site without being linked to it for humor in the past year or so.
That would make sense, but the only problem is that comparing a format war to a console war is like comparing WWII to African tribal feuds.
Blu-ray has huge corporate backing advantages, its sales are higher, and its technology is better. There's not really much that can happen now.
Those are the games that I can't stand, and they seem to spread over the entire game now because that's what works. Instead of taking out 2-3 guys with accurate headshots from the rifle, you find the Laark (rocket launcher) or the Rossmore (shotgun) and just hope the other guy has a weaker gun.
You are right though, it does make sense. People weren't playing it online because they got raped when they logged on for the first time. Unfortunately, the game offers very little sense...
Jaffe has stated several times that there will undoubtedly be a God of War 3 on the PS3. In fact, it's already being planned. Most of what he says when asked about it goes something like:
"We're in the early stages, we've drawn things up...but there is no publisher or anything like that."
You haven't added online because it would confuse the consumer...ok. So I assume that when you finally do, it won't be built around that absurd code system? Fair enough.
I hope this game is good because Insomniac pissed me off with their online patch to Resistance: Fall of Man. That game was amazing online until they noob'd it down because people were complaining about being killed too quickly. Now it's just a really bad next-gen version of Halo. Unfortunately, it will probably just be another sloppy port.
The FPS games I'm really waiting for are Unreal Tournament 3 and Killzone 2.
In regards of storyline, Gears of War doesn't deserve to be mentioned within an hour before or after the word Halo is spoken.
I must say Halo 2 (Halo fans tend to disagree) was one of the few games that really took me in through the storyline. When I say few, I literally mean 3 or so. I never played the first.
As much as I detest Microsoft and the 360 (I might as well be holding my middle finger up in this article, sorry), this game has the potential to sale me a dust collector just like Halo 2 did. It's almost worth it for the one great game though.
IGN posted that in their review, but Sony debunked it earlier. Still going to be a great game on both the PS3 and PS2 though. I've got Virtua Fighter 5, Motorstorm, God of War II, Heavenly Sword, and Lair all waiting to eat my wallet in the next month or two.
It's really not that arrogant considering what Blu-ray is doing to HD-DVD right now.
Multi-platform games will almost always perform a bit worse on the PS3 for one reason: the 360 is easier to program for, and therefore games will be ported from there to the PS3 and not vice-versa.
The only way this will change is if the PS3 takes a huge majority of the market, forcing developers to make games look as good as they can instead of making them barely worthy of the 360, and then throwing it on the PS3.
Ever played Final Fantasy VII for PC? Is the PS...
"Today I met and spent significant time with Bethesda and their most important title, Oblivion. I spent half of my day playing the expansion for the Xbox 360 and PC, Shivering Isles, and the other half playing the PlayStation 3 version of the title.
While messing around, I cleared up a few rumors floating around about the PS3 version of the game. I'd like to share them with you and make sure you can seperate the truths from the lies:

Because this isn't a car or a computer?
Consoles are made to play video games for 5+ years. If you're going to be upgrading constantly, why buy it in the first place? That's what PC games are for. Why spend $500 every other year on an Xbox when you could be upgrading the graphics card in your PC and playing Crysis?
It's not going to happen. At least not like portrayed in that screenshot. If the consoles see Crysis is will be well after the PC version and it won't be the same game.
The PS3 is actually more powerful in terms of processing power than the 360. People will argue until the end of time about which system will push the best graphics, so don't even ask. Right now, the 360 has been out for well over a year and has the game(s) to show it. The PS3, on the other hand, is still new and is therefore lacking a big game library. I advise you to look into upcoming releases before you make your purchase, because within the next year or two both the PS3 and Xbox360 will b...
That thing looks ugly.
Hasn't Microsoft said that HDMI isn't necessary? Why is everyone so excited about an HDMI port then?
Oblivion for the PS3 has been confirmed by reviewers and the developers themselves to be of higher quality than the 360 AND PC versions. A guy with a Bill Gates avatar is obviously going to have a different position on that though.
The actual cost is 630, not 840. They also give the number in units sold in the article: about 20,000. In one day, in Ireland.
Also about 2,000,000 for the rest of Europe. That's a lot for a single day. There's also the fact that now that the PS3 is available in Europe its sales will see a big increase over time as well.
The PS3 will have sold around 5,000,000 worldwide by April. It still has 2/3 of the year left, and the holidays.
