lol .... if youve been paying £55-£60 for console games, blame your stupidity because major retailers sell standard editions of new releases ~£40.
And as I mentioned before, you have the option to sell the crap you dont like and put it towards gmaes you do whereas on PC youre stuck with what you go for and if you want another game, thats an additional cost.
Considering the lowest common denominator are those who contribute most to the development of the game, why do you see that as unfair?
Why should devs spend an unfair proportion of resources to the minority who want to max out their high end PC's?
Just because some people bought high end hardware it doesnt mean devs are obligated to optimise for it.

You can play more new releases for $500 on console than PC because of pre-owned.
Funny thing is that despite the pre-owned market, consoles version of games still generate more revenue than PC.
If 5x more people bought a PC version of a game at 10x lower the price of the console version, it doesnt mean it performed better.
I'd like to see a percentage breakdown of games being purchased for more than a fiver compare...
A larger number of devs have made the swith from PC to console and PC than console devs have to console and PC.

I can see why that perception may exist, but you also have to remember that unlike most non-AAA games, you do get difficulty settings, the controls dont suck, and AAA devs face fewer technical limitations which reduces the chance of them being illogically and/or unfairly hard.
