The only company I lack confidence in is Microsoft... Not only with the 360 and it's technical issues, but there other products aren't up to scratch in my eyes.
Don't get me wrong, I can see that the 360 has some great games, & if it wasn't for the failure rate I probably would have bought one over a PS3. I also wonder how many others are in the same boat as me? I personally think microsoft would have sold so many more consoles if they took the time to iron out the faults. Pe...
Personally I hope we get choice to either buy our films / games via Digital Download or going into a store to pick up a physical copy.
All I know is I'm going to be picking up a physical copy every time! I personally feel downloads devalue a product. I like to hold it in my hands and know my money is well spent.
I also miss the days when a games manual was worth a read too! and what about things like the maps you get with games like GTA. Just my opinion, I wouldn't f...
I was under the impression that the PS3 and 360 transfer speeds off a disk at similar speeds, the problems lies with the PS3's disk having a much higher capacity that it takes longer to find the data?
Obviously if what I've heard is correct then a 400GB disk isn't going to help? maybe it can be solved by the developers/publishers doing something clever?
Please just correct me if I'm wrong, I don't claim this to be fact, just what I've heard.
Currently all this does is give the PS3 extra potential. What I want to see is the PS3 utilise these disks to make some epic games.
But lets not forget that a game is not better for having larger file sizes. Just look at the N64! the cartridges capacity was pitiful compared to the PS1's CD's. but it didn't stop the N64 getting some epic games.
And to all those people who say that they don't need that much space to publish games. The first PS1 games barely used 10% t...
I get where you're coming from with the cars, but it's flawed. If the wii had games like COD4, Halo, MGS4 etc etc and the PS360 (i'm combing them into one console to make this theory easy to describe) were full of shovelware and stuff like wii fit and wii sports. Then the PS360 would be outselling the wii. and all us hardcore gamers would be would be enjoying all the hardcore games, but with poorer graphics.
Microsoft and Sony can both 'claim' that they are not competing with the Nintendo wii because basically they have different target audiences.
What they should be asking themselves is how can they attract the audience of the wii over to there own systems without alienating there core audience.
The thing is the shareholders will be looking at Nintendo's success and asking did Sony / Microsoft approach this generation correctly?
As we are all gamers here ...
Ridge Racer on PS1 used something like less than 10% of the capacity of a CD, but by the end of the PS1 life cycle games like MGS and Final Fantasy were on multi disks.
I'm not here to say more GB's means better games! because that is not true, but it gives extra potential. Whether the developers step up to use that potential is what we'll have to wait and see.
I'm also like the potential of it as a film medium, entire trilogies on one disk in full HD. same with enti...
I agree, Counterstrike is still one of the best online FPS, Source never felt quite the same, but still very very good.
I don't like to support yearly updates on titles, it's why I'm not buying COD5, it just looks like a COD4 Mod.
With Half Life 2 you can download countless Mods for free, some not so good, some great, I would be looking forward to the Black Mesa Mod and the Goldeneye Mod if I could get Half Life 2 to work, but for some reasons my copy currently wont...
lol, I agree 100% with you, Kijima would find a way to fill even a 1TB disk just to say that it's not enough space to get more publicity!
Didn't anybody tell him that when consumers buy a game they don't care how many GB's on a disk it fills, all they care about is how good the game is!!
I remember back in the day on the megadrive when sometimes they put on the front cover of the packaging "24MEGA BYTES" (or whatever figure it was) if that is the best selli...
The Article Reads that by...
2010 to 2012 they will aim to make a 400GB Rewritable Disk,
By 2013 they aim to make a 1TB Disk,
It is 2008 now and they HAVE produced a 400GB Blu Ray Disk, I don't expect to see it in store tomorrow, but it's a possibility over the next few years it might happen.
Also as far as costs go, The readers are what cost money as in the CD laser, the DVD laser, the Blu Ray Diod (I think that's what they call it.) The ac...
Some times his PS3 bashing does come across as unprofessional in my opinion, but I bet the media has spun it and exaggerated it.
As a PS3 owner i will admit we miss out on the opportunity to play Left 4 Dead, maybe EA will port it next year, who knows? but what will really want to play is Half Life 2 Episode 3, I hope I don't miss out due to my choice of console, but if I do I will just have to find a way to survive.
When i bought Half Life 2 at launch it wouldn't activate as the servers were too busy or something, I had to wait a day or two before I could play the game which I bought over the counter at a store. I had installed it all, I just couldn't get it to activate!
Now many years later I felt like playing Half Life 2 again! however for some reason when I reinstalled it, it won't activate my copy!!! so it won't launch. It most likely is to do with the quality of my internet connection, ...
Why are people buying Need For Speed, I've not seen a single good review for that game! people need to seriously look past the name and spend just 5 minutes research a product before they buy.
As for R2 & LBP not selling as expected, I Don't really care, as it hasn't stopped me enjoying them :) I just feel sorry for the people who've missed out.
Not everyone rushes out and buys games the second they come out, I haven't got around to picking up R2 yet, might wait until t...
Do you really have nothing better to do then to bad mouth a piece of technology?
This gives the PS3 even more potential! but the key word is potential, lets hope we see this potential utilised in some awesome games.
Extra storage can mean better games, it means less limitations, more storage for hi res tectures, and many other potential improvements. However the key word is "CAN" take a look at the N64, the cartridges were pitiful in capacity compared to th...
Think of how much longer Kojima's cut scenes are going to be in MGS5 with a 400GB disk! :)
Don't hurt me, I love the MGS series, and it wouldn't be the same without the cinematic cut scenes, but I do wish he'd cut back a bit in some places.
With the PS3 using 400GB BD disks to 360s 9GB DVD then the PS3 could potentially have a huge advantage. but the key word is potential. so far not much has really used the potential of the 50Gb BluRay disks to really stand out from...
Just thought I'd point out that for me, and probably many many others, it wasn't Halo that got us into FPS, and made them 'fun' Goldeneye did that on the N64.
My own personal experience I had more fun with Goldeneye multiplayer than I did with Halo.
Halo definitely built on Goldeneye's success, and technically is a much better game, and co-op was great fun too. Halo 1 was a great game and helped the original xbox suceed. but the sequels have felt shallow to me. I ne...
People need to just chill when it comes to sales,
I wouldn't care if nobody bought it, (apart from I'd feel sorry for the developers) I still plan to buy it, I just haven't right yet, it's coming up to christmas, so going to wait and see if santa gets this baby for me first, if not maybe then I'll loose faith in him and have to go buy it myself in the January sales.
DRM is currently punishing the people who buy the game, and the pirates get a greater sense of satisfaction from pirating a game which is meant to be protected.
Maybe game developers could look at a way to reward gamers for purchasing a game? i.e. registration either online or via post from something in the packaging. & then you gain access to bonus materials / extra levels? or even something posted back to you? Concept art book, or soundtracks? This could only apply to first...
