You're in Europe and I am in North America, two completely different markets. My pricing is based on US values, where all of my claims, for both PS3 and 360, are correct (just as you are in your territory). I am talking about MSRP as well, not retailer's voluntary price reductions. GeOW2, Fable 2, etc. have been $39.99 for many months now. KZ2, LBP, R2, etc. are still $59.99 in the states, though Amazon usually offers a discount.
Your rant was mostly speculation. Many of these PlayStation 3 games you say dropped in price 4-8 months after release still sit at full MSRP (Killzone 2 announced for Platinum only recently, and that's only in Europe, and MGS4 at 12 months), whereas many 360 exclusives' prices fell rapidly in mere months of release (GeOW2, Fable 2, Banjo, Last Remnant, Infinite Undiscovery, etc.).
Sony may have invested "$60 million" (I thought it was only 40?) into a game that sold 2+...
How much do you think those PS3 bundles you named are going to cost? Most likely $399.99. Personally, the more expensive bundles were worth the price when they included backward compatability for PS2 games, though, I admit an extra 130GB and a game (possibly PSN title voucher extra, like PAIN! and echochrome with previous bundles) is worth it too. The $299 core system will be more attractive to the mass-market whereas the bundle not so much, but that is why it'll be limited.
You make a very good point, Dread, and I wouldn't be so blind and ignorant to claim Sony or any other company hasn't had to make desperate sacrifices in a heavily competitive market as well. Holiday bundles are inevitable indeed and I didn't consider that the season is approaching.
Speaking logically and being one that greatly anticipates Uncharted 2, I agree that MW2 would interest more people. As amazing as I found the first Uncharted, it just didn't catch on among gamers as I felt it should and I don't know if people will actively look into UC2, no matter how beautiful or perfect it is. However, I disagree that MW2 would do as well as GT5 (though PS3+360 sales combined it's possible). The reason I say this is because Gran Turismo is the most popular console racing...
I am curious how Sony will respond to Microsoft's newly announced $399.99 250GB Modern Warfare 2 bundle:
MW2 limited edition 360 with 250GB HDD
Extra controller
MW2 basic edition
Considering how little the effect was from lowering the price yet again for their console, this bundle seems a move possibly from desperation to try and convince the public 360 is a better value than the PS3 at a comparable price. You can be guaranteed Sony's 250GB L.E. bundle w...
I concur, Ace Combat is as good as it gets when it comes to console flight simulation. I would love to see the series finally make its debut on the PlayStation 3, especially with a graphics engine optimized for the CELL if made exclusive. These names could be for both a PSP and PS3 game with interconnectivity. However, it is NamBan, so It wouldn't surprise (or disappoint) if it turns out to be PS3/360.
Maybe we'll hear about it at TGS?
Nah, the YouTube freezing is quite typical actually. YouTube XL is a piece of .... which causes way too much strain on the HDD. I try to avoid it for the PC version as much as possible, but the stupid thing keeps forcing me back to it.
I experienced a freeze while destroying a turret truck in inFamous a couple nights ago. Also, I experienced a strange glitch where the screen went pixelated before the video went out (but resetting the console fixed that). Add on top of that the web browser freezes my console quite often (but that problem has been there since launch). This definitely makes me even more paranoid since buying the slim. lol
No problems, pre-3.0 or post, with Uncharted, though.
Am I the only one to have been greatly disappointed by the first movie? I'm a huge Silent Hill fanboy, completely obsessed with the lore, so watching the first movie upset me. The movie had excellent direction, cinematography, art direction and music with a mood most befitting the series, but TERRIBLE acting and writing! I had hoped everyone involved with those aspects would return, but come with a more competent writer and cast.
Now, as far as you saying Bean should return, I...
Don't forget the no-name site whose reviewer rated inFamous poorly, saying you couldn't climb trees as well as a few other absurd claims that turned out to be bogus.
I'm not justifying this review by any means, only saying that not all opinions are to be trusted...especially Omega's. hehehe
I seem to remember this happenstance before from one of Sony's internal sports studios in either the PSone or PS2 era. Taking a year or more off to go back to the drawing board and restructure the franchise is a great idea. Creating arguably the best baseball franchise in gaming only to make a very average basketball game is inexcuseable.
The ONLY difference in features between PSN and XBL Gold (premium, not features included in free Silver):
Netflix Instant Queue
Party movie streaming
Universal Voice Chat
Universal Game Invites
PS3 gets Twitter, FaceBook, last.fm and plenty of the other fluff for free via the browser. So, when PSN gets Universal Chat/Invites and Home Media Streaming, will you, the consumer, still be able to justify the $50 fee of XBL? Do the current exclusive features wa...
LOL Why didn't you preach that message while I was Catholic?
You might want to get some Preparation H.
OT: To me, the first game was underrated so I guess this is PSM3's way of compensating for that. Definitely on the top of my must-buy list!
Based on my first instinct upon completion of Uncharted, I came to the conclusion that all is not over for Navarro. Yes, we see him being dragged down into the blue abyss with the sinking coffin of El Dorado, but has anyone given any serious thought to what is inside it? The curse/bacteria/whatever turns whoever becomes exposed to it into a primitive, yet organically evolved creature. Who is to say, out of desperation, Navarro forces open El Dorado and becomes one of the creatures? If you...
I beat Uncharted on Crushing in 5 hours, granted I had already found every treasure in the previous playthrough. It isn't a very long game, but deeply satisfying (I've played through at least half a dozen times, I love it that much).
The new commercials Sony has released in support of the "re-launch" of their system are charming in the vein of the original GEICO commercials, and we have seen the effects of those as people talked about them, for their catchy slogans and wit. One thing I must add to you talking about Sony marketting their big titles is that it is an area they need to work on. One thing Microsoft has done well (extremely well), is how much money they put into theatrical production values that get...
My obsessive gaming on my old 80GB was nothing more than a money pit, which was obvious when the utilities bill came around. The only time it was practical was during the colder fall/winter months where the (abnormal?) amount of heat coming from my PS3 kept the temperature extremely comfortable and rely less on central heating and air. Sounds like I am exaggerating, but I'm not. lol
Accidentally posted without "Reply" so #6 is also part of this response.
For the record, MS has bundled Halo 3 & Fable 2 (together), Halo 3 & Halo Wars (together), GeOW2, Project Gotham Racing 4 as well as other 1st party exclusives with the 360, making my argument just as valid as yours. What 1st-party exclusives does that leave? The rest of my response is covered in comment #6.
