To me its all about the controller. Nintendos controllers have sucked since the days of N64. I don't care how pretty the graphics are. If the user interface blows I'll find my self skipping yet another generation of Nintendo. The rumors say its more of a traditional controller, but they are also saying it mimics the form of the gamecube controller. Which would be fine if they put two analogs on it instead of one analog and a nipple.
I think the Wii lasted longer than even Nintendo thought. They probably already had a successor in mind and was just waiting for the Wii to run its course. Plus they got PS and Xbox's focus off their main course with the motion craze. Now that the big dogs are distracted, it sounds like Nintendo gonna try to go for the throat. I'm glad to see that most people see this as a bad idea cuz it is. Competition drives innovation. If Sony didn't have to try and grab your attention away from MS and Nintendo(and visa/versa)they would have no drive to put cutting edge features in their system. Take Bluray for instance. Yeah cuz really Nintendo just basically re-package a game cube and gave it a new waggle controller and sold to consumers again. So there is some logic to what your saying. By doing this Nintendo was the only console maker that was making a profit off their console right out the gate. Which would give them a sizable war chest. They had better give it a serious name this time. If it even has the lame Wii name anywhere in the title Im boycotting. The combat to me was the major flaw in this game. I've played almost all the FF games and this one just didnt cut it. I know that JRPGs have always been on the light side as far as story and characters go. But I find it hard to get that emotionally involved in a story where a grown man has a chicken living in his fro! (I know its a chocobo) It seems to me that the rest of the worlds rpgs have evolved into an almost cinematic experience. While jrpgs feel more like saturday morning cartoons...
