That makes no sense, the creators already have to balance the game that currently exists. Giving players access to different settings does not change this. It's fundamentally a part of the work they already do.

@Realms why does anyone have to care why you play the game when what is being talked about wouldn't prevent you from playing the game the way you wanted to? Why is what you play Souls games for more important than someone else's reasons are given the fact that an easy mode has no impact on those who don't use it?

This isn't like someone deciding to replace DMC with DmC.

"There are lots of games I choose not to play, not because I am not good enough but because I am not that interested in them. It just so happens I do like the games made by From Software mainly because they interesting to me and present a challenge. These games are not for the casual player since they do take a long time to complete and that is not taking into account the challenge.

These games are made for ages 15+ (at least in Australia) I do think by the time people ...

Why do you care if people take the easy way out? How does that affect your game since we are talking about a distinct mode? Does it affect the way you browse this site if someone else zooms in the text?

"I myself have had my experience ruined by optional difficulties on a game called Grimgrimoire. It started getting pretty tough towards the end, and in my desperation to complete it, I switched to easy mode for the final 2 missions. And... I completely regret it. The gam...

People want a mode setting, a setting is not the same as asking to make the game easier across the board. This is like arguing that controls on consoles shouldn't be remappable because you like to play with the default settings.

@nitus, how does someone else's choice affect you? What does it matter if someone who isn't you takes the path of least resistance? You should probably take your own advice and ignore yourself, instead of trying to come up with a nonsense argument that does not change the fact that you can choose not to use something.

I don't see how you can do what they did when games like Xrd, BB:CF and the like exist. It's like asking your competition to make ads saying "Look we have a story and arcade mode. Unlike those other guys."

Thank you for seeing the light.

Just stop. A difficulty mode existing doesn't require that you actually use it. The data needed to create such a mode would be created through the process of balancing the game. It boils down to adding a few menu options and allowing players to access settings.

Every time I see permutations of that quote about renewed focus I can't help but think that, that focus is intended to hand over the store space for hardcore games to Valve/Gog/Origin.

Sigh. Why can't Microsoft show its commitment to gaming by providing features that people would actually want like:

1. Rebindable mappings for gamepads
2. Support for at least Nvidia and AMD recording solutions out of the box.
3. Working true fullscreen.
4. The ability to store and switch between key binding/controller mapping profiles based on the kind of game. This would save time in having to constantly do rebinding every time you get a new ga...

I think that is part of the problem here; people don't seem to understand that Souls games are about grinding. While I see no harm in an "easy" mode I would argue that difficulty modes don't make sense since this game isn't about leveling up through quests like The Witcher, it is about stat grinding until you can overwhelm anything that manages to stop you cold. People try to play these games like a typical action RPG which is basically all about rushdown type tactics;...

Did you turn off hairworks in Witcher 3?

Shhhhhh. How dare you suggest not picking an option not relevant to you.

The difficulty of becoming a doctor, and the difficulty setting of a videogame, a piece of entertainment software are in no way comparable.

Oh please. Terrorist demands? Over a game that gets alot easier after you grind your way above most of the enemies? All people are asking for is a mode, a mode does not by definition impact other distinct modes.

3628d ago 2 agree6 disagreeView comment

Except the souls games really only require grinding to remove the difficulty of almost every enemy. Which is why a difficulty mode doesn't really make sense for them. They aren't tests of skill like DMC or Ninja Gaiden. Stats are far more important.

Exactly. I love how these clowns who get validation from a videogame have the gall to say that others don't have the right to ask for something just so that they can feel special over something so trivial.

Should they not translate Shakespeare into various languages then? The examples you bring up are not like the situation here. People want to experience the game, what would like an easier difficulty level. What would actually be analogous would be someone who wanted to experience Shakespeare but does not because they cannot understand the original English.

3628d ago 1 agree3 disagreeView comment

There is nothing wrong with difficulty levels, it's just that these people can't differentiate between an option, and lowering the difficulty across the board. Only one of these actually impacts them.
