I quoted a prime example elsewhere - Fh3 v FH4. Exceptionally poor sales for a high quality game. Put that into another developer who sees sales plummet by well over 50%...
It's great for me as a punter.
At the moment.
But it won't last.
Release quality, quantity (or both) will suffer in the long run.
Except william_cade may have bought 9 games but now only actually bought 4 - deciding that actually 3-5 hours into titles, william_cade was bored of 5 games?
Its a glorified rental system that will kill off the funds that developers need through sales. MS will leech titles, offer a healthy up front cost to a developer, rake in money from Gamepass themselves but the developer will get a fraction of retail sales because people don't buy after rental time is up.
I...
@wiz7191
Because people won't buy them if they finish them on Gamepass? That's the entire argument. If they play something with longevity they may say that $10 discount is worthwhile. But more and more people Will buy less games. Which is unsustainable if you want quality.
Can't help but wonder why FH3 seems to be touted as selling around 2.5m copies but FH4 has sold less than 1m if you take some of the charts as correct. I'm not saying they are...but I kinda...
Great game with a wheel.
Replays can be a lite jerky (on XbX). Plagued the last version on release too. Hope it's patched - ruins the ambience and interaction a bit...
It's not. The same thing.
I sincerely hope that backward compatibility is as a physical copy - and not an "exchange your copy for access on PS Now" deal. Has that been defined anywhere yet (that I've missed) or are we still waiting for more info?
Please...don't screw that up...
So technically...a 3 year Gold subscription and you can't play online; plus $1??
Don't get me wrong - I like Gamepass (I'm in both "camps") and think it's good value. BUT I dont see it as sustainable, supporting 6 or 8 x $40-60m AAA exclusive games a year. When people can dive in and out of Gamepass subscriptions however they feel like. I'm confident that something will change in the next 12-24 months on what Gamepass offers for the money. In the meantim...
$1 for 3 years Gamepass? And all those exclusives included. Sounds too good to be true... 🙃
That's ok then...
🤣
Probably because it's unsustainable.
People dropping in and out of game pass, gold and any other subscription offering can't retain a user base of 10m-20m sales with 6-8 quality exclusive games during a calendar year...
Nah...I've got about 2 years of backlog to clear..!
This game played great from the off. It didn't have content that some were expecting. But it was totally playable. There were bugs but I didn't hit any gamebreakers from day 1 when I played it.
Most certainly looking at VR update...
3rd party sorts itself for now...but if there isn't competition, with exclusives, it could possibly lead to lazy porting of yesteryear...
Testing the water for their next generation GAAS machine.
We're nowhere near ready for this yet!
Disagree. The XB UI is terrible. Laggy and confusing. The Stores is horrific in terms of response and layout too. I think the 1X is a great bit of kit badly let down by usability. Fortunately, it does play games well. The PS UI is streets ahead - although I appreciate the look and feel may not be liked by some.
Very cutting article. Basically saying take everything with a pinch of salt..!
We'll see. Trying to keep all expectation in check...
Sony may not be offering up Cloud services to companies as a product but intrigued as to why they're in last place as a console service?
They offered cloud saves before anyone else and they have PS Now which in theory could provide the whole of their back catalogue over internet as a subscription service. I'd say they're in a healthy position at the moment.
Could be better but could be far worse.
Makes sense to me and you. But not someone.
I mean...how much money was raked in from cross platform releases? It's gonna happen to some things. And let's face it, if they know the target architecture for PS5 or Xbox Two, they can make sure all the assets are ready for a higher end beast up front. Remaster or higher def upgrade becomes a piece of cake. Relatively.
Makes less sense not to do it.
So a reported ~8m players of FH4, compared to ~4m FH3. But reported in excess of ~2.5m FH3 sales and less than 1m FH4. Don't quite tally do they. I guess there could be another reason. But I know what I believe.

We could go on forever arguing the toss over positives and negatives. I think it's utterly detrimental to gaming in general, but bloody great for me at the moment. You think it's a good thing.
Guess we'll find out in a few years time.
