Probably quite a few reasons.
Firstly, while not a big seller, it was quite highly rated. They may think they can build on the positive and increase sales across uts user base. The first game wasn't on their platform so it's a whole new market. But overall, it would be a feather in Sony's cap to take a poor seller on Xbox and make it a bigger success on Playstation.

Why do these articles get written? Everyone's got their wish list and if you felt that strongly about it, you would've written to the publisher or developer. But in my opinion, supposition in an article this far out is a waste of everybody's time - including the author.
If money not an object, yes.
If you plan to upgrade to a 4k tv anyway in the next few years, yes.
Otherwise probably not. Stick with an S (or PS4/Pro) and wait for next leap. You wouldn't know the difference unless you played side by side or viewed all the boring comparison videos...
Give it a break. NONE of the consoles are capable of "True" 4k games across the board. The PC is the only one - with a decent processor and GPU. Dynamic resolution for the most part of this console gen, with native resolution dependent on the game type. There are 4k games on pro, there will be more on X - but checkerboarding will be liberal until the next gen.
Not quite true. With cloud save and remote play on Vita, can play anywhere too. Not the same offering but similar result...

Farcical - they're both great games that are different. Is Donkey Kong better than Chuckie Egg, is FIFA better than PES, is Uncharted better than Horizon. All great games (some admittedly in their day) but there's not a king of the platformers, king of football, king off action adventures. People like different aspects.

Hasn't Forza 7 got the lowest Forza score in the franchise history. And user averages below GT:S..? And you know what, I couldn't give a crp. TBH, it's not the direction I wanted it to go in BUT I'm loving it at the moment. There's plenty for me to do and play standalone before I venture into the race world. I think the handling is exemplary with a decent wheel and pedals and I can't see me boring of it too soon. That said, I hope they plan out their DLC in the same way Evolution did...and I hope there's little or no pay barriers.

How do you know how long they spend developing it?
Given that it's not the only "job" they have, I fail to see how anyone can judge if they're value for money or not. You may know the elapsed time, but Sony know what the actual manday effort is, in between their work for Nissan and other "proper" car work. They could still be fantastic value for money on the payback of sales.

The step was made back with PS3...not just this gen (a few native 1080P games and bluray). In my opinion, the difference between SD and HD is far more noticeable than the difference between HD and UHD. And between UHD and SUUUHD... 🙃

I still don't think that the leap to 4k is anywhere near as prominent as the leap was to 1080P. Diminishing returns. But then I'm just an ol' git who possibly needs his eyes tested..!
I'm more interested in the game and gameplay rather than the constant pixel counting...
I'll play on the hardware I have - until I decide to upgrade. No point comparing side by side - cos I don't do that at home..!
