"Leveling the playing field" only counts if you're trying to be "fair". Guess what? Business isn't "fair". There are advantages to coming out first, and it's not "cheating" to do so - just ask Sony with its PS2 last gen.
Consumers care which console has more higher-rated games. The percentage of games is not relevant in a real world discussion. As said above, it is simply fact that the 360 has the highest number of highly-reviewed game...
Though I don't agree with much of the article, it's important to note that the author never said the price cut wouldn't help - just that it may not be enough for the PS3 to "win" over its competitors.
I think his view, however, is too focused on North America, where the PS3 faces its toughest battle. Other regions will likely be enough to boost the PS3 over the 360 in the long-run, but I think the 360 will continue to hold NA for the forseeable future. People forget t...
I've been saying for awhile that, for the most part, average consumers - the ones who made the PS2 a runaway success - don't do all that much research into the "value" of a console. They see the initial pricetag, they figure out what games they want, and they know what people they know already own - and that's it.
With the dawn of online, this is a major factor has become significantly more important - the "my friends own something so I want it too" factor. ...
8th April - The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai!
It's about damn time! Been waiting for that since I tried it during E3 coverage last year.
I guess it's a full-blown Arcade game now, rather than an XNA game?
Yes, I'm serious.
Unacceptable hardware failure rate aside, the 360 is a solid system. It has a great controller and a great line-up of fun games, and a very well-designed online system that is seamlessly integrated with all aspects of the console.
If it weren't for the ridiculously shoddy hardware, I'd consider it right up there with the SNES and the PS2.
Dude, you're reaching. Did you read the article? It's ABOUT the PS3 being third in SALES and making a comeback in SALES. It has nothing to do which one is best or worst with regards to system quality.
@1.5
Seriously? That's your argument? Everyone admits the 360 is in competition with the PS3 and the Wii. That is this generation's "line-up". The PS2 came out before the XBox, does that mean the XBox was not in competition with the PS2? Yeesh.
...
It WOULD be a comeback, because the truth is it's been behind in sales. The fact the 360 got a head start is irrelevant - it still needs a "comeback", sales wise.
That being said, of course a comeback is possible. This generation is far from over. I'm sure there are plenty of people, like me, who are just waiting for the hardware to reach the right price and for the right game(s) to come out. Me? I'm waiting for God of War 3 and perhaps a little Gran Turismo 5. <...
What truth is that? That's a solid system with plenty of great, fun games that many people enjoy as an alternative to Sony's system?
OH NO! THE TRUTH!
Yeah, the hard drive prices are ridiculous. They've taken the same "overpriced proprietary accessory" path as Apple does, and it's annoying as Hell. However, it doesn't make me have any less fun when I'm playing games on my 360.
It's really not just this generation...
Sega CD
32X
Virtual Boy
Atari Jaguar
Sega Saturn
N64 using catridges
I could go on...
Crappy hardware decisions are in no way exclusive to this generation of gaming, sadly.
Sony keeps Microsoft's greed at bay and Microsoft keeps Sony's greed at bay.
This is the ENTIRE POINT of competition. If anyone "side" got a monopoly, gamers would be screwed. Sony does not "care" about gamers any more than Microsoft does, and both would gladly screw their customers if they were the only game in town.
The fact that your post is in the Gamer Zone and hasn't been modded just shows how far this site has sunk.
It doesn't matter whether or not you agree with the sentiment of his post; I think we can all agree that the phrasing of it is entirely unnecessary. How does "You either support Sony or you're a 'fanbrat'" belong in the Gamer Zone for "friendly and civilized discussion" where "fanboyism is left at the door"?
A storm coming?
Which side are we going to be on?
You do know we're talking about video games, right? When the competition is this intense between companies, EVERY gamer is a winner.
As I said above - comparing the DS to the Wii just because they both have some casual appeal is unfair.
Nintendo and other companies have done a far, far better job of bringing hardcore games to the DS than they have to the Wii.
I don't think it's fair to compare the DS to the Wii.
While they both have casual appeal, the DS has far more games that appeal to the "hardcore" segment. I own both a PSP and DS, and sadly, my PSP has not really been touched since I got a DS. I loved Jeanne D'Arc and God of War, but I haven't found all that much else to draw me in.
On the other hand, The World Ends with You and Elite Beat Agents are both two of my favorite games ever, and are very-much m...
This is why the 360 isn't going to "die" anytime soon. As long as 3rd party publishers see numbers like this coming in, they have no reason to stop making games for the console.
And, believe it or not, there are many AAA games that are *not* exclusives. I could be quite content with just the 360's multiplatform games alone.
Because the companies that made those games couldnt've done so on any other system ever.
There were NEVER any Metal Gear games before Metal Gear Solid for the PS1. And certainly not for a Nintendo system! Oh no.
Or, the other major franchises we enjoy today simply would've been released for a different system.
I can't believe 35+ people agree with the absurd statement that video gaming would've died out if Sony hadn't gotten involved.
Wait a sec.

Oh, right. Nevermind. Of course 35 people at N4G believe that drivel. "A pro Sony statement? Oh my, I must click 'agree', without giving it any real thought!"
It is an interesting question to ask - how things might've played out had Nintendo not rejected Sony's CD add-on. Bu...
It will probably come to the PS3, but it would not make "twice as much money" if they released a PS3 port.
Every additional port costs that much more in resources (both time and money), which cuts into your profit. Not only that, but most multiplatform games in general do not sell nearly as well on the PS3 as the 360. Releasing a game for the PS3 is not a way to magically ensure you make twice as much money.
You are correct - the 360 is matching the performance of the PS2 in more ways than some people want to admit. It came out earlier than the competition, and has the highest overall number - but lowest percentage of - "great" games.
