first of all: no germany as you know it today is not a socialist country. And actually never was. After WW2 germany was split in two halfs divided by a wall. One part was called Federal Republic of Germany and the other one was called German Democratic Republic. The Federal Republic of Germany was and still is a Federal Republic. The former German Democratic Republic was socialist until October 1990. After those two states were reunified the official name was "Federal Republic of Germany...

It is NOT the case that the game couldn't be sold here in germany. It is the case that Microsoft has a policy against selling this game here.

let me start at the basics:

the USK is there to test the games similar to the ESRB. A game can get USK0, USK6, USK12, USK16 and USK18 or the USK can not rate it at all.
This has two consequences:

1. You can only buy it if you are 18 or older

2. You are not allowed to give or show it to ...

about 30-50% of sales of a game fall into the first two months. after 4 months these games are no longer "fresh" enough in order to sell as good as it would if the game was delayed.

i'm more than willing to forget HDMI and just connect my xbox 360 via VGA cable for 1080p

the quality loss is neglectible in my eyes

And absolutely loved it :)

my favorite was killing those guys in their robots by attaching glue grenades to them and then hiding behind some solid objects (walls and crates can be destroyed) and repeat until the robot explodes and the player has to emergency eject. Then killing him with an assault rifle.

The way scoring works is different from normal multiplayer games tho. If you kill someone you will gain points. if you kill a robot you will even get more points...

i would actually prefer to have NEW games on XBLA rather than old ports.

If they actually mean it that way then it would tell alot about this game.

Was attending this years GCDC ( Games Convention Developer Conference ) and was sitting in a presentation called "Made in Germany" that was showing a few games that were successfull in germany. Spellforce was a RTS/RPG mix and Settlers II (remake) was a RTS game with high emphasis on economy building.

The developers mentioned several times that the main difference between german...

"its a matter of taste said the ape and swallowed his piece of soap"

i dont think that i'm happy with the general idea of an "exclusive game" at all. For every game that is exclusive there are hundreds of gamers that cant play this game because they had a different taste in their hardware purchase.

But if we must live with exclusives then i must say that i'm pretty happy here in 360 land. Maybe someday buying a ps3 when they are cheaper (avai...

Japanese people aren't buying products because they are made in Japan. They are buying products they want and need. Apples iPod is a huge success in japan and Apple is no Japanese company. Levis Jeans are selling good in japan. And you cant seriously argue that the japanese use english words out of pure racism.

It's as if the Japanese start arguing that the Americans are racists because they dont watch as many Anime as they watch Hollywood.

Or how about the europ...

I dont think we will see the demo on US/EU marketplaces anywhen soon.

They said that this demo is for TGS and that it will be available on a Famitsu in Oktober.
Even after that it will most likely only appear in Japanese Marketplace with the US/EU demo coming about half a year later maybe

1. High definition CGI cut-scenes and LOTS of it.

i wouldnt agree here. You can compress High Definition cut-scenes by a huge degree. From what i've seen as compressed HD material using H.264 compressing 25 Minutes of video to about 230MB without artifacts. That is about comparable to last gen only with the difference that the videos had lower resolution. With the change to current gen videos got higher resolutions for the price of more computing power needed to decompress not ...

while it is certainly possible to do it the other way (unique models everywhere) the thing is: Who makes all these individual flowers?

creating art assets is an expensive thing. So game developers have to copy things in order to maintain a certain budget.

and it will certainly be the case that they reuse many models in Resistance. But the difference is that they might not save it like Oblivion. So instead of saying "place flower XY there" they might say...

Textures are a little bigger than 3D Meshes.

a 32Bit 1048x1048 texture as normally used for character models is an uncompressed 4MB exactly. But thats not where it ends. You also want MipMaps in order to increase speed and visual quality. MipMaps are additional textures that are ordered in a chain and getting smaller with each one. So with our 1024x1024 texture the chain would be 1024x1024 -> 512x512 -> 256x256 -> 128x128 -> 64x64 -> 32x32 -> 16x16 -> 8x8 -...

3D Models and Textures are actually quite cheap.

Average Vertex size is 64 Bytes. Character Meshes have about 5,000 polygons. If we store the data without indices we would then have to store 15,000 (3 vertices per polygon). That would result in about 937,5 kb per Character Mesh. With using non-indexed vertices we will have many vertices that occupying the very same space.

Think about a simple cube. it has 6 sides consisting of 2 triangles. That would make 36 ver...

actually they will start working on ps4 as soon as ps3 ships. Same with Microsoft. They are already working on the next XBox.

Thats the way it goes in this Industry.

I think that Sony will do whatever benefits their bank accounts (as every company does).

If MS creates a new Console then Sony has to get something out too. Its the same with XBox 360 and PS3. MS did a smart move by releasing the 360 last year. And MS will release the next Console once it sees that it is necessary to do so in order to stay in the console business.

i.e. MS announces the next XBox for 2010 then Sony can't wait till 2012 to get that new Playstation...

Then i congratulate every PS3 buyer: "You got yourself a very nice Game here"

That of course only if it really is the "spiritual successor" of System Shock.

I encourage everyone to grab that old game for PC (System Shock 2) and make your own opinion.

Now that i think about it ... *goes away and installs System Shock 2 again*

Its difficult for a german to see the differences there :)

We dont use the US education system.

Yes MS does alot for education. I remember that when i visited the states that every library had computers with internet access sponsored by mr gates (if i remember correctly)
