it is on the index
microsoft and sony have a policy that makes them only publish rated games. since the game was denied a rating it became 18 only and wasnt officially sold in germany. Even tho it would have been perfectly legal to do so. Most retailers had this game nevertheless you just had to ask nicely. Got my copy at Gamestop as an UK import.
if i hear the term "banning" i think "forbidden". Even we germans dont call it "banning" but rather "a game is on the index".
what we germans do is to try to keep those games out of the reach of kids by making it forbidden to show/sell/give it to them. So most large retailers can't stock it in shelves visible to minors. Those games are not forbidden but just pretty difficult to find.
There is one case in which a game can be...
Chromehounds had these problems one year ago
A friend of mine (german as well) played some Chromehounds against someone who had his Hound covered with Nazi symbols. After the round that guy wanted a "rematch". My friend declined pointing out the others guys Hound and got a replay:
"Discriminator"
I joined a Squad once and the teamleader was a guy named "<insert Nazi themed name here with misspellings>" and he had...
In germany it is forbidden to deny that the holocaust happened or to glorify the Nazi's Role in WWII. It is also forbidden to display Nazi symbols with two exceptions:
- In Art ( video games are not considered art in that case )
- In Education ( showing a Nazi flag in school during history lessons is okay )
Any other use of these symbols can only glorify the nazis as the symbols themself did so.
I dont think that it is a matter of freedom of...
i can agree to parts of this and then again i have to disagree with others :)
copying the texture from your Blu-Ray drive or Hard drive directly to the video RAM sounds like a neat trick. If Cell can indeed access the video ram fast enough without having to use the RSX it is a pretty cool thing. Can't really tell what would be faster. If the RSX needs to help with loading those textures then it is a pretty bad idea because RSX would be blocked while waiting for the data to be ...
they would have to have complete different teams work on those games ( similar to how Splinter Cell Double Agent was done by two different companies - one for ps3, 360 and pc and the other for wii, ps2 and xbox )
Developing for the ps3 first would have the very same effect on 360 as vice versa. So you have that SPE optimized algorithm? ... how to map that to 360? Its the same pain ... plus you do your main development branch with a development environment that is worse than the...
and thats what i posted on a different news item that had the same interview as a topic:
eggebrecht is no programmer but he argues as if he knows the specs of both systems while clearly that isnt the case.
"The PS3 is all about streamlining about the two different memory pools. They are separate. You don't have to do tiling because you don't have an embedded frame buffer."
obviously he mixed two completely different things and said what?
...
I personally have a hard time trusting a non-programmers talk about console specs. Especially if he makes a non true statement in the process.
"The PS 3 is all about streamlining about the two different memory pools. They are separate. You don’t have to do tiling because you don’t have an embedded frame buffer."
That last sentence is wrong. The tiling process is completely transparent from the developer. All he is advised to do is to make a Z-Only pass ...
This is the E3 2006 trailer.
They actually showed some early concept gameplay at this years GDC

Personally i'm very excited about Mass Effect. Bioware has a record of good RPG's starting with 1998's Baldurs Gate which pretty much revived the dying RPG genre.
A syringe with a random selection of genetic imprinting for the home user. Pretty much Raptures answer to Bertie Bott's every flavor beans.
that first emulator was running on the media center pc and just the video was streamed to the xbox while controlls were sent back to the media center pc
as for the free ... the emulator itself is free as in free beer. in order to run it on your 360 you will need to have a 99$/Year subscription to the XNA Creators Club.
On the other hand you need to have your pc and Game Studio Express up and running to send the game code to the console.
T...
in my math 659.99$ + 50$ is 709.99$ and not 699.99$
there will be a FPS AND a RPG ;)
she might have violated her NDA and will never get a game related job again.
or its simply a marketing move
who knows
right now it is only possible to ban a game if it violates our laws. Most famous example is Caste Wolfenstein which would violate the restriction of showing nazi symbols (only exception for that restriction is art and documentaries).
If a game/movie/book features simply violence it is added to the index which means it can still be sold if you are 18
more on the topic here
Lets constuct an example with porn. Watching porn disturbs kids into rapists. Thus porn is responsible for all the rapists here in germany. The only effective way is to ban porn in germany and prohibit the filming...
Heart of the Tiger was Wing Commander III
Wing Commander IV was Price of Freedom
3 DVD's is perfectly ok for me as long as the game is linear (JRPG's tend to be that).
Ah that reminds me of times:
Wing Commander IV (6 CD's)
Gabriel Knight II (6 CD's)
Phantasmagoria (7 CD's)
11th Hour (4 CD's)
...
Here's what i dont understand. Why are you so desperate that the "other" console has all the bad games and just "your" console is king of the hill? Does it make any sense? So the other console might get Bioshock, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy or Metal Gear Solid? Why cranky? Be happy for them beeing able to play those great games. In the end both consoles are just metal, plastic and some computer chips. Its the games that count. And its the fun that counts. Do i have less fun...
