The experience might be hurt a little, but people wanna make the choice, not have m$ make it for them. It's all about not forcing things down our throats that everyone doesn't want... I agree with your last point tho, if really wanna keep it in the box, just eat the cost. If you're forcing me to accept a piece of hardware I don't really want, make it free lol!
Tbh right now you're not missing much by passing on both of them. However the ps4 is doing a lot more right than the x1, and has some killer games in the pipeline.
I got nothing against the x1 itself, but m$ as a company really turns me off. Just so openly greedy, and obviously don't give a damn what we think. (your list is accurate) they have alot of things to change before I'd give them any money...
I think it speaks to how balanced these games are, when he came up with 10 op weapons, and everybody above me came up with 20 more... Add to the the noob tube the type 95, and this is a massive list. But that's OK, there will always be tiers, be it Cod or sf4...
Personally I like underused weapons, don't like going 20-2 and having people say it was my gun lol!
This game is for the hardcorest of the Hardcore gamer... Having a non gaming website review it is silly. Would you have a gaming magazine review the newest, most top of the line fishing pole? "yep, it's a pole alright, and it's for fishing. Nothing new here". Fishermen would be up in arms. There's a reason there's specialist media. Although gaming media has been pretty piss poor lately...
I really wish someone would buy the rights to make another Eternal Darkness... Fantastic game, with a stellar story (not to mention re-visiting the locales century after century was an eye opener!). Loved every minute of it.

my pc is hooked to a tv, I'd much rather have a pure console than an "all entertainment" box... just MY opinion, but the "all in one device" spot has already been taken in my house, by my IPad and my Galaxy S4... just need my console to play beautiful games, thank you.
