A lot of people are treating these as sales numbers when they are, in fact, just player counts.
I don’t think you read the graph correctly. The number you’re reading is the number it’s down or up year over year.
Maybe it’s not something they’ve “promised”, but I feel Retro Studios has been one of the more disappointing.
We’ve gotten one game this generation, for the Wii U back in 2014. These are guys that are masters at their craft and haven’t made a single bad game, yet they have practically no appearance this generation.
Michael Ironside! He’s just too iconic for me. I’d know his voice anywhere, and he pulls off Sam Fisher so well.
Open world games, especiallt with RPG mechanics. Many of them rely on the same tropes, and story telling can be difficult.
I think there should be a greater sense of urgency, and less Ubisoft-like structures. Less emphasis on collectibles just for the sake of it. There should be branching story segments, and the decisions you’ve made should feel impactful. Fallout 3 did that years ago with Nuketown.
My favorite genre is definitely survival horror. Especially of the early Resident Evil type. The suspense and progression always gets me. Especially when it progresses almost like a metroidvania. Im a huge fan of horror movies (even the awful B-rated ones), but I still scare fairly easily. Regardless, I’m always willing to try out a good survival horror game, and I can’t wait for Resident Evil 2 RE:make
Every game having an install. That and massive patches.
This is something that isn't necessarily new at all, but something I feel is missing from most current games. Couch co-op.
When I grew up playing games there were always fun games to play with a friend while over. Now it seems like Nintendo is the only one holding that trend. Sure, I've grown up and I guess kids aren't reliant on going over to play a game, but there was something special about having a sleep over as a kid and kicking your friends butt at a game...
@badz
Well, yeah that’s definitely a part of it. With more consoles sold comes more customers thus more of those individuals looking for news. Even still though, some sites cater to different demographics. For example, IGN isn’t particularly Sony driven, nor is Reddit. NintendoEverything is obviously Nintendo driven. I think this site would still be disproportionately biased towards Sony even if Xbox or Nintendo were selling more consoles, but I guess that’d have to happen ...
What I think is funny is that all you people disagreeing with my comment are actually proving it lol.
@FallenAngel1984
That depends. Last year June was a higher selling month than October for consoles, and the same thing happened in 2015 for the PS4 (meaning PS4 sold more June 2015 than it did October 2015).
I guess June was a relatively hot month for PS4 that year. Probably because of that E3 presentation. I think that's the one where they announced FF7 remake right?
@gamingunited
You have that completely backwards. N4G is a site driven by a community that is largely Sony oriented.
October doesn't typically provide a major boost for consoles, it's November and December that do that.
Honestly, I think that each of the companies are better when they focus on one system. This way their developers are constantly providing new experiences on the one device instead of having gaps between releases on two devices.
Sony's handhelds are great consoles, but I think their home consoles are better. That's where I'd prefer they focus. The opposite goes for Nintendo, which is why I really like the Switch (sure, it's not just a handheld, but it fills t...
I think it's the detail in games now. Not just graphically, but gameplay wise. Sure we've had spreadable fire before, but games like BotW and RDR2 have really stepped up the kinds of details and gameplay mechanics you can put in a game. Zelda goes for the more gamey type mechanics, but the chemistry system is really amazing in that game. I mean, just how many different ways you can cook an apple is pretty interesting.
RDR2 goes for more realism. The fact that horse...
Why are you limiting them to post N64 stuff?
You aren’t going to get an unbiased answer here on N4G.
I’m going to have to say Super Metroid. The back tracking, progression, and boss fights are all top notch. It has incredible level design, near perfect ambiance, and a satisfying arsenal. While it wasn’t the first of its kind it almost perfected the genre so early on that other Metroidvanias are still playing catch up to the entry.
Idk, your post sounds pretty aggravated to me with the excessive punctuation and all caps, but if you aren’t that’s cool. No reason to be, IMO.
Switch isn’t a successor to the 3DS. Otherwise they’d have stopped making 3DS games.
Also, PS4 has sold less systems than the PSP + PS3 (so far). Should we contextualize those sales now too?
