No, actually you could cancel from the site for a while. In your profile, you just select not to auto-renew. You get some BS message that it won't reflect it on your subscription status until it's over. They keep your card on file the whole time too, which I think doesn't make any sense. Right now on my xbox.com account, it tells me that auto-renewal is off and I did that about a year ago.

It hurts all gamers. Why? Because when other gaming companies see this formula of success that Activision has adopted, they too are likely to start half-assing their most successful franchises in order to maximize profit. Face it, this is a business, and companies think with their wallet in mind first and foremost.
