I believe the dev used a coding trick that allowed part of the Xbox hard-drive to be used as ram. Half-Life 2 and Far Cry: Instincts on the OG Xbox were arguable even more impressive than Doom 3.
Doom 3 first released in 2004 for PC. It was also ported to the OG Xbox in 2005. The OG Xbox had a single core 733 MHz CPU, 64 MB of ram, and GPU clocked at 233 MHz with a performance 7.3 Gflops. I don’t see how the Switch running Doom 3 is mind blowing it’s an old game.
Nadella is the one allowing an increased investment in 1st- Party.
Nintendo makes their consoles to prioritize their own first-party titles. Nearly all Nintendo first-party games have cartoon graphics and don't require a lot power to look good an have clean visuals. I personally see no advantage to buying 3rd parties games on Switch, excluding portability.
Uncharted 4 is pretty stylized. In-fact I would say all games pictured in the article: Horizon Zero Dawn, Gears 5 and Detroit Become Human, are all pretty stylized but very technically impressive. Battlefield 1 and RDR 2 are two if the most realistic looking games I have ever played on console. However, they only sometimes look photo-realistic.
Wolfenstein is an FPS game and Dialling back the lubricious aspects of The New Colossus will probably be beneficial for Wolfenstein 3. Unfortunately, The New Colossus was written by a person who comes off as an SJW with a pregnancy fetish.
The twins regardless of their sex, already have a good reason to hate Nazis. They were born during the revolution against Nazis that started at the end of The New Colossus.
Also a pregnant woman fighting Nazis was absolutely ridiculous, even for Wolfenstein.
Some of my favorite aliens are Urdnot Grunt, Wrex, Thane, Garrus, Thel' Vadam (The Arbiter), Zeratul and Mission Vao (even though Twi'Leks sorta of aren't aliens)
Ryse and The Order and other games looked very good early gen because the PS4 and XB1 are easier to develop for than the 360 and PS3..
There is plenty of non-combat focused gameplay in Doom (2016). There secretions that focus on platforming and/or exploration. I think the writer of this article probably doesn’t like the long kill times and combat arenas of Doom (2016). The game’s enemy are durable unlike the general foot-soldiers,”grunts” and “goons” fought in Call of Duty 4 and Uncharted.
I have been Doom twice firstly on ultra violence and then on nightmare. The game is challenging. However, I am used to...
It always takes years for studios to fully master and utilize the hardware of consoles. Look at the 360/PS3 (2005/2006) launch games compared to their 2011-2013 counterparts.
Nintendo gets free passes on dated hardware, low frame rates, low resolutions and high prices. Sony and Microsoft receive far more aggressive criticism for things related to game performance, hardware and price. Games like Doom and Wolfenstein II can have sub-mediocre performance on the Switch, yet get praised for being “portable” and a “remarkable” technical achievement just because it’s on a Nintendo console.
Microsoft has the studios and money to produce great games. However, Xbox studios needs to be better managed next gen to reach it potential and be more competitive.
To be honest I was surprised Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus reviewed so well. Because of the New Colossus, I am not too excited for Youngblood.
Geralt and Yennefer are both almost 100 years old in the Witcher 3; they're long past being in their 60s.
There is no "smoking ban", the Coalition is just choosing to not depict smoking in any Gears games from now on. That being said, the Coalition didn't need to publicly disclose their decision, as its generating unnecessary "controversy".
It’s just a character licensing deal.
Battlefield 1 (and other recent Dice games) ?
I am pretty sure the MechWarrior videogame IP is owned by Microsoft.

Piranha games is developing MechWarrior 5 via a license grant to them by MS. It would be odd if Piranha games made Mechwarrior a Epic Store exclusive, when MS allows their IPs on steam.

I think the source engine in general had issues with loading. Half-life 2 and Portal 1-2 on 360 still had frequent load times.
