The game had other problems, besides lack of a campaign.The game lacked depth, had dull combat, imbalanced weapons and heroes. The next Battlefront games should, be based around the original 2 and have some influences from Battlefield. Unfortunately since the game sold so well, EA likely won't put much effort into a sequel. They will likely just swap out the Rebels/Empire with Republic Clones/Droids and add some Clone Wars Era weapons, vehicles and maps.
I read that part of the article twice;Ryan Cleven seems out of place as a TPS mp designer. Luckily he has a proven template to work with,plus he is being overseen by Rod Ferguson.

I think the return of the platformer is hinging on how successful Yooka-Laylee and the Ratchet Reboot are. If both are successful, we will see more platformers (besides Mario). I plan on buying Ratchet and Clank, I love the series. Personally I hope they give closure to the Ratchet Future Saga and Ratchet finally finds the other Lombaxes.
I am somewhat conflicted if Joel and Ellie's story needs to continue, but there should be a Last of Us 2. With Uncharted presumably ending, I think it's time for Naughty Dog to possibly bring in a new IP or revive/reboot Jak and Daxter.

I am not sure if a canonical cross over would work. I personally have allways felt that the humans on Sera seem out of place, since the planet is a lot different from earth. The only way I would link Gears to Halo would be to have Sera as a seeded world in the haloverse . The Serans wouldn't be aware that they're not indigenous to the planet. I personally see no need for a cross over between the two series since they are very different in tone.
There is no indication of space travel in gears lore. Besides with the luck that the people of Sera have, they would immediately fly into a covenant cruiser....lol, were they ever to attempt space travel.
@Foxtrot Their bodies where thrown into mass graves. I would predict that the new enemies are derived from locust organic material and have some kind of genetic memory. The precise origin of the locust is something that needs to be cleaned up.
The Locust are dead; the new enemies maybe Locust derived,and are thus potentially their successors or kin.
Shadowfall is a decent launch game; however, it is not as fun as it's predecessors.

People should get off the Microsoft ruined Rare hate train, the studio was struggling to adapt to a changing gaming landscape during the early 2000s. The majority of their titles under MS: PDZ, Kameo, BK:Nuts and Bolts, the two Viva Piñata games and the early Kinect sports got good reviews.
