I'm in a 3 year Game Development program (2nd year now) and I'd have to agree that it's no walk in the park. We're currently working on a 6 people team assignment and our goal is to come up with and make a simple 3D game by the end of this month.
We already have a couple of simple concepts and just finished prototyping them using primitives, but there's still A LOT of work to do in terms of art assets, without even touching the scripting/programming side. ...
People these days think of FPS as games that suck the moment they don't have a MP segment. Unfortunately some devs/publishers cave under this pressure due to competition and try to put together an unnecessary multiplayer segment, cutting in on the single player part and sometimes unbalancing the whole experience. Dead Space 2 comes to mind.
Half-Life 1, 2 and the episodes are examples of how a game can be awesome if games focus and stick to the single player experience. I...
Unfortunately the demo arrived purposely after the game had been shipped. This was to cash in on the initial hype sales, which means a lot of people regret buying the game at release date.
Not releasing a demo before the game ships is an excellent business strategy, but it also shows that the developers/publishers are not confident/sure with what they're about to sell.
This is not always the reason however. Some devs/publishers simply don't bother wit...
Is DLC fairly priced?

I really, REALLY miss the previous gen...none of this stuff was there!
Still doing those inner monologues, are you?
BTW, where's Chocolate Bear? :D
I just want them to focus more on the games, and less on Kinect, but every year the opposite happens, since E3 2010.
For a second there I thought that the 'S's were getting smaller with each letter.
Agreed. I still don't understand why people pay for themes, but unfortunately there are people out there who will gladly pay for themes. As long as these people exist, there will always be a market for such stuff.
The funny thing is you'd actually find free cool themes out there, besting the ones being sold.
I'm intrigued to actually check this out. The comics are awesome and so is the TV adaptation.
I'm keeping an eye on this.
I could've sworn they said the same thing when Crysis 2 was in development?
It's one thing to say that you're currently the best looking game on the console, it's another to actually deliver it. Last time I checked, they didn't really deliver on their promise with Crysis 2.
Yep...unfortunately the same thing could happen again.
EA/Crytek weighed in the hardcore fans of the first Crysis vs the many many casual gamers already out there and decided to cash in on the latter option.
The mistake that these publishers/companies tend to make is to go after the quick short term cash solution, rather than the long term one.
Our game was a huge hit this year. Let's make another one. Shall we take say 3 years to develop...
Judging from Crytek's track record with previous Crysis 2 promises...we have to wait and see.
I also have the same issue. I have all 3 games, but I would like to own the trilogy.
This is the one company whose last thing on their to do list is to actually listen to their fanbase...and they've got the nerve to ask for patience? If anything, they're asking for more time to pull out more content and sell it as DLC.
Exactly. The problem is that most developers think that multiplayer is the way to go. For example, Dead Space 2 really didn't need a multiplayer segment. It's like installing an engine to a shopping trolley - could work, but not necessary really.
"5 Games I (author) 'll Never Get Bored Of"
That's what the title is supposed to be.
This is precisely what I'd like to see - studios coming up with great an unique concepts of games, that are fun and innovative to play. thatgamecompany so far has delivered on every front with flOw, Flower and now Journey.
I'll definitely get my hands on this once I'm back home.
So did some of us when Sony launched at $599, with few games and late on the market while the competition (Microsoft) was available for less with awesome games. But look where we are now - Sony managed to turn the boat around and they brought in many awesome and huge exclusives (and counting) that I've had the opportunity to own and play.
The point being, it's too early to start speculating let alone predict Ninty's future failures - we don't know the specs of...
This will make me a very happy man, if true. Beyond Good & Evil is an awesome game.
