Sony has offered bc on all consoles in one way or another except to the PS4.
Sony are tech engineers.
The base is not concerned with backwards compatibility.
Is it/would it be cool? Sure.
Would it generate a lot of revenue? No.
It is niche. Known through sonys long run in console gaming and offering bc.

The series s is the next gen core for Microsoft.
The series x will enhance the games built for the series s.
So you when you say “low budget” etc for the series s... that is what games you will be playing on the series x.

Microsoft is the king of marketing hype. This does not translate to real hype.
Remember the day one edition of the Xbox one? That sold out but was readily available for a year after launch.
Any company wants the sold out approach.

when the Witcher 3 is still selling, cyberpunk will have no issues probably breaking records this year regardless, if by some strange reason, it is not good.

Microsoft literally has a free to play game on gamepass. It is multiplayer. You have to pay to play multiplayer on xbox.. in order to play said game in a subscription pay wall.

No, it is not.
The best aspect, for Microsoft this gen, was last gen.
Now, with a 4tflop anchor for next gen and wanting to hold on to said gen tells you they are stagnant per advancements in game engines and the like.
It is stale.
Put as much make up on halo infinite... it is still a modified version of the base engine they have been using.
The Xbox is becoming your Walmart of gaming.

No arguing that... but if it hinders progress by locking hardware and stifles innovative new techniques to offer a new gen gaming experience... then why focus on it?

We will have to see what is offered... but I can assure you, the big boys will all ask them same price.
There is cheap gaming.. then there is cheap Gaming.
It didn’t have stuck drift.. it had Bluetooth connection interference issues that caused the drifting.
Not saying it to make seem less of an issue, but that was the issue and yes, I hope this issue is fixed.

Microsoft will do what it takes to recoup their losses.. This means charge more for less.
Here is the thing though...
I would rather Sony lead with innovation, inside and outside the console, for the games they bring to the table...
BUT(huge but).. if Sony wanted to play follow the leader and open up their VAST library of games to a service... it already exists.. offers more, but can topple any gaming service if they go full retro and offer EVERY game they had since ps1. Even licenses from their pc ips.
