Not to defend Destiny, but in that game the things you spend money are ENTIRELY cosmetic and I seriously could care less, I have more emotes, ships, sparrows and Shaders that I could actually ever use or need and never spent a $. An entirely different situation with EA and their 2000 hours of grind to get everything and 10 hours just for a character
If you don't buy the game that comes with loot boxes, the loot boxes will make no money, let's see what they prefer, selling at least the game or nothing
