I have sympathy for the extremely slim chance that this really happened and the parents weren't trying to bilk someone for a free system, but at the same time I absolutely don't believe them.
In the event it is real, I know for a fact that they're going to make an issue out of it with the store, where there is a 90% chance it wasn't their fault. Chances are this would have been done by a disgruntled factory worker or UPS shipper if it was done at all and it should be up to Sony...
Blame Nintendo, not Gamestop. Besides, I really have little sympathy for the average holiday costumer. Most of them are looking for an argument and are completely unreasonable. Working retail for a decade has killed any interest I have in the holiday season.

You should NEVER have to pay for demos. Demos are the only thing short of renting (which usually doesn't lead to a purchase) for a player to test out a game before they buy it.
MIcrosoft is making a huge mistake. I'm glad I own the PS3 as well so that I don't have to put up with this kind of bullshit.

Hmm, I thought the Outbreak servers had closed quite a while ago. Kind of disappointing. Had I known they were still up I would have picked up the games again.
Sorry, I don't buy it. Nintendo has had a year to compensate for the demand. The Wii is the first console in history to be sold at a profit and has been a considerable cash cow for them. Turning some of that money into additional production centers should have been their number one priority.
I'll say it straight. Nintendo is intentionally shorting their product.

Wow! Sega announced weather for NIGHTS today? Wait a second... this was announced months ago to Gamestop when one of the game's developers showed up on our monthly videos we play in the store.
I have to say that the article here actually presented Jack Thompson rather well and if he could approach all debates as level headedly as this one he might have more success with real people. He made clear points, and while all are not completely and factually supported, he did say them well.

I have to call shenanigans on a report like this. I think that if people were approached correctly with the question that more people would say they would approve of advertising if it brought the price of games down, as it rightly should.
If you advertise to me and are making money from it I shouldn't have to pay full price for your game.

There are times where I can really respect Adam Sessler. He definitely cares about gaming and where it is headed, but on occasion he trips himself up a bit and joins the crowd with some very uninformed opinions (PS3).
