-= looks at the two games OP mentioned =-
Yeah, Persona and Baldur's Gate 3 sure did so bad with that "design from 20 years ago..."
Think of these 900 planets as resource nodes like you would find in countless other games. They're just a place to go and gather resources.
They often are but it's more how a game is marketed by the publisher than anything.
Never played a Tales of game? Lots of RPG series that have been around since SNES have real time combat and combos.
It's more that other games have added a lot of RPG elements over time, not that FFXVI lacks them. What does it lack that should otherwise be there?
Are the people that write these even playing the game? What is your definition of an RPG?
FFXVI has:
Leveling
Stat Increase
Equipment
Equipment Crafting
Equipment Upgrading
Ability Tree w/ Retraining
Quests
Side Quests
I'm really failing to see what these articles are trying to say. Does this mean other RPGs like Tales aren't RPGs?
Edit - Article ...
No idea. I'm a Sony fangirl and this one eludes me. I see it as a device that they don't really care about the success of. It can fail with no large loss but if it succeeds, they gain a benefit.
Sakurai explains how he and Nintendo still don't understand how the internet works.

I think the issue you're having here is thinking this all happens at once, non-stop, from moment to moment. That's definitely not the case. At its fastest this was God of War, and at all other times it's just a typical RPG.
Most open world games including those you mention, minus Disco Elysium, are also far more repetitive, reusing templates and assets in a cut and paste fashion. You often find yourself doing the same mission style over and over and over.
Far too many people are willing to ignore racism in favor of some entertainment simply because they aren't the target of that racism.
@SullysCigar
Lol, what?
You can spout whatever nonsense you want to... and everyone is more than in their right to tell you how wrong you are. What is this BS where you think you can just say anything without consequence?
There is SO MUCH post game content.
Currently on Steams list of global top sellers and has almost 200 very positive reviews. I don't think they care about how many people are playing concurrently for a title like this.
As others have said though, it's a very, very average game. I don't think Sony particularly cares about how well it sells. I doubt the port was terrible expensive in the long run.
Does this article insult Parasite Eve? That game is a fucking masterpiece.
No lies found.
If it were on Playstation, Xbox, and PC I would be 100% more interested than I currently am. I feel like this series is wasted on the Switch.
My mistake. It is written.... "taking cues from..."
Hulk: Ultimate Destruction was super popular.
I'm pretty sad by this and I see the lower scores are most everywhere. The performance issues alone are incredible. I was really looking forward to playing co-op with my friend but now I think I'll wait...
Confusing that you're being down voted when this makes a heck ton of sense.
