I thought the bit about trying on the "hat" of the Mako and then trying on the "dress" of planetary mining (and how neither of them seem to work) was pretty funny.

Well I guess we'll all just have to see, right? I think dismissing the game just because of its rating without having played the game is silly. Good thrillers and horror can be done without an M rating (or film's PG-13 equivalent), it will just depend on whether or not Remedy can make it happen.

And once the game is out and if it feels like the T rating was shoehorned into the game, I'll be the first to say "y'know, the game felt a bit pedestrian and probably would have be...

Fatal Frame 1. Not a thriller, but close enough.

And in related news, Infinity Ward doesn't give a crap coz they're too busy counting all their money.

No, the Silent Hill games just had Pyramid Head raping everything and having main characters vomiting up fetuses and other characters eating vomited-up fetuses...not much gore though. :P

Avoid the Lost videogame that came out a couple years ago. I'm an avid fan of Lost, but that game was trash.

It's cool hearing Sam Lake talking about the game's influences. He even mentions my favourite book "House of Leave" by Mark Z. Danielewski as an influence.

Seriously, for those interested in a strange and refreshing thriller, go check this book out. It's so good.

abmac, it's interesting that you mention Hitchcock. This game does remind me of more "old school" thriller and horror movies and literature, the kind of slow burn that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up, not because of the boo moments or slapped-on gore, but because of the general feeling of unnease. There's a certain classiness to that kind of storytelling.

I wonder if it was Remedy's intention to get a Teen rating. I'd be interested to know if they're surprised about this rating and whether or not they think it would help or hinder the game's critical and/or commercial success.

I actually found the swearing in "Alone in the Dark" more appalling than the gameplay. I'm with Conando, some games just don't need the so-called "mature" content of bad language or excessive gore to make it good.

Certain games, on the other hand, I damn well EXPECT that kind of content.

Movies can be PG-13 and still be frightening. Regular TV shows can be creepy as hell. Twin Peaks has shown us this (especially the scene when Bob kills Maddie - still the most unsettling thing I've ever seen on network television). There's no reason to believe that a Teen rated videogame cannot provide similar chills and thrills.

I was never expecting this to come out this year. And I'm glad too, I've got enough games to play this year as it is. Gears 3 can take all the time it needs. Good game first, release date second.

The first Fatal Frame got a Teen rating, huh? That's surprising, as I remember alot of unsettling images from the first one (people being hung, etc). And the second one is simply frightening, so it deserves the Mature rating 100%.

I've always said Microsoft should change their "Only on Xbox 360" labels to "Not Available on PS3" because that's really what they're getting at anyway. It's a console exclusive, and in the war between the 360 and PS3, that's all that matters to them.

His reviews are alright, but holy cow they're nowhere near as good as some of his older reviews from a year or two ago.

Like all the close-ups Mel Gibson gives himself in Braveheart? THAT's pornography, my friend.

The Dead Rising prologue sounds kinda cool, though dumb that it's an exclusive download.
