I'm not crying about the mission... but you're doing side quests and it basically just throws you into being the character... you wouldn't know to just skip it.

Whether or not the early access people knew... most gamers didn't know this game even was coming out or had heard of the franchise. Then it hit and boom everyone is talking about it.
